Major duties and responsibilities includes, but are not limited to:

Establish and review policies and procedures for the Business Office.
Conduct management analysis techniques that promote management principles in wards, admitting offices, and emergency setting by making workload surveys that inhibit positive changes in clinics, admission services, and scheduling policies.
Respond to subpoenas/testimony in court or other non- medical center type of civil hearings.
Exude via policy of applicable laws pertains to the determination of eligibility for discharges and transfer of patients.
Furnishing pre/post opt care; the disposition of deceased patients, their funds and effects of furnishing authorized services.
Personnel management of expenditures and withdrawals, selection, procurement and purchase of clothing and other articles for obligation of debts
Coordinates "Bed Utilization" studies by bed management software.
Develop all necessary information relating to bed demands, availability of staff, seasonal fluctuations, changes in procedures and policies as they affect planned bed utilization.
Formulate and issue policies which provide sound administrative practices.
Operational responsibility for creating/utilizing program evaluations for physical facilities and equipment as describes by the Medical Treatment Facility.

The Assistant Chief, Patient Business Service (PBS) occupies a major position on the PBS service management team.
An important aspect of the Medical/Health Administration Officer's relationship to management is that of providing timely and reliable patient workload advice and benefit information necessary for management to make effective decisions and provide for proper program execution and planning. The employee serves as a subject matter expert and advisor on all Health Administration issues and assures appropriate oversight and monitoring for these programs that transcend the boundaries of PBS.
The Assistant Chief, PBS has shared responsibility for the planning, direction, control, coordination, operation, and evaluation of all Health Administration functions of the Medical Center. In that role, the employee is responsible for overseeing the administrative and technical operations for Medical Records (transcription, release of information, tumor registry, documentation and coding), Records Management, Freedom of Information Act, non-VA Care (Fee), Ambulatory Care Processes (scheduling, eligibility and enrollment, beneficiary travel, patient transfers, transportation/patient escort), Ward Administration, Administrative Officers of the Day, and the Application Coordinator functions for inpatient and outpatient workload credit, clinic setup, waiting list management, and Advanced Clinic Access management.
The size, complexity, and variety of programs at our Medical Center, the changing political, economic and financial climates, and the complexity of the budget and the resource planning and management make the task of Patient Business Service management extremely complex, difficult, and challenging. The employee administers operating programs and activities supporting health care administration and services provided to veterans, their dependents, and beneficiaries within PBS and Medical Center wide. PBS provides coverage at the Medical Center 7 days per week and 24 hours per day. Coverage is provided in Primary Care, sub-specialty care, emergency room, inpatient, and CBOC settings.

What You Will Do
As Senior Director of Administration, you will act as the lead administrator for our large accelerator complex, oversee a budget of approximately $50 million, and serve an interdisciplinary team of over 300 faculty, staff, and graduate students. You will oversee administrative operations and be responsible for the day-to-day direction of approximately 8 direct reports in these areas: Administration, Budget, Faculty Support, Finance, Human Resources, Space Allocations, and Research Administration.
As a member of CLASSE’s leadership team, you will contribute to strategic planning and executive decision-making in a complex matrix organization that requires thoughtful navigation, collaboration, and management. You will report to the CLASSE director and the CHESS director and serve as the primary advisor on administrative matters. You will engage regularly and work closely with colleagues in units of the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation and across Cornell, including Facilities and Campus Services, the Office of Risk Management and Insurance, the Office of General Counsel, and the Division of Budget and Planning.
