You will work closely with partners at regional specialist centres, and expected to attend and be a core member of the primary breast cancer Multi-Disciplinary Teams and Specialist Multi-disciplinary Teams, acting as the patient’s advocate and being involved in decision-making.
With a drive for innovation, specialist care and as an integral member of this multidisciplinary team, you will be involved in developing service delivery with the aim of maximising quality, patient experience and cost-effectiveness. You will be instrumental in the implementation of the recovery package, supporting the survivorship and rehabilitative aspect of cancer care, promoting a culture that supports and enables self-management.
• Is actively involved in the performance management of cancer targets to ensure patients have prompt access to diagnostics and cancer treatments.
• Actively participates in multi-professional meetings, acting as patient advocate and representing nursing views
• Working with the MDT is instrumental in supporting the implementation of the National cancer strategy at a local level including the ‘Recovery Package’
• Supports the development of patient focussed education, including training to self-manage ongoing consequences of treatment
• Makes sure that people affected by cancer are aware that they are interacting with a Macmillan Professional and know about the full range of resources and services available through Macmillan.
• Actively engages with Macmillan Cancer Support to contribute expertise and experience and supports the Macmillan Strategy.
• Acts as a role model for excellent advanced communication skills and expertise.
• Work with the Macmillan lead cancer Nurse to support the implementation of local cancer strategy and raise the profile of cancer CNS within WUTH
• Good organisation and negotiation skills
• Effective communication with all members of the MDT
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team

If successful in this role, there is a requirement for you to have a standard/enhanced DBS. This will be paid for by the Trust and then deducted from your salary over a period of 3 month. As this vacancy is within the division of Women’s and Children’s, there is a mandatory requirement for successful applicants to join the DBS update service. The cost of joining the update service is £13 per year, and applicants are liable to cover this cost with no reimbursement from the Trust.
