In this position as a Marine Inspector Training Officer (MITO), you will be responsible for implementation and management of the unit's Marine Inspector/Port State Control Officer (MI/PSCO) training program, and subject matter expert providing technical expertise and training leadership in the compliance duties of marine safety, vessel inspection, pollution prevention and vessel manning laws, regulations, treaties, and international conventions.

Typical work assignments include:
* Developing and maintaining written, unit-level MI/PSCO training program guidance and procedures in alignment with directives.
* Performing marine inspections and port state control examinations to maintain currency, and expertise at the subject matter expert (SME) level.
* Setting qualification goals/timelines, and tracking trainee progress towards certification or recertification of MI/PSCO competencies required.
* Conducting technical review of vessels' plans, safety management systems and operating systems to determine compliance with regulations and applicable standards.
* Instructing and conducting all inspections required on vessel navigation, intra-vessel communication, alarm, lifesaving, electrical, machinery, firefighting, and pollution prevention
systems.
