This position maintains and repairs, modifies, troubleshoots, installs and operates all heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems for the Northport VAMC. This includes all air handling units, air conditioning compressors, chill water pumps, condensing water pumps, heating water pumps, cooling towers, ice machines, heat convertors, fume hoods, variable frequency drives, and associated pneumatic and electric control systems.

Major Duties include but are not limited to:

The work involves installing, recognizing the cause of faulty equipment, and making repairs on a variety of domestic and commercial refrigeration and air conditioning units and systems such as walk-in and reach-in coolers, refrigerators, ice cream cabinets, deep freezers, attic and evaporative fans, and other equipment of comparable complexity including large systems for heating, cooling, humidifying and dehumidifying.

Installs and repairs systems to condition the air for different kinds of structures including those areas that have special requirements such as communication centers, data processing centers, operating rooms, laboratories, intensive care units and other areas with sensitive equipment

.The systems use a variety of methods of air conditioning and refrigeration such as mechanical compression, vapor compression, absorption and multiple compressor systems.

Performs all mechanical and electrical work required to maintain, repair, service and recognize the cause of faulty equipment relating to refrigeration and air handling equipment.

Starting at $31.78 Per Hour (WG 10)

• You will operate heavy forklifts; load and unload supplies, materials, and equipment; stack, unstack, and move heavy objects.
• You will construct containers using the requesting units specifications and make changes according to Department of Defense (DoD) Directives.
• You will select proper type and grade of crafting materials needed and plan how to best utilize material available.
• You will prepare shipping documents, and handling instructions on shipping container in accordance with the DOT/DOD regulations.
• You will build temporary trestles, decking, bulkheads, and cribbing and cuts and/or place dunnage to support, stiffen or otherwise separate heavy or bulk freight.
• You will be required to pack hazardous materials such as acids, cleaning fluids, preservatives, and materials that have radiation factors.
• You will select, tools, machines, and plans construction method based on dollar amount, weight, storage, type of shipment and durability.

• Distribute irrigation water from and between storage reservoirs at diversions and in canals, and at all delivery points within the specified work territory.
• Maintain records of water delivery, reservoir inflow and instream flows; calculate requirements and arranges quantity, time and duration of deliveries.
• Operate Project distribution facilities (dam gates, canal gates, checks) to regulate and deliver water in accordance with Project policies.
• Responsible for constant surveillance of condition of reservoirs, dams, canals, structures, buildings, recorder stations and other facilities.
• Work with maintenance crew to clean ditches and structures, repair and replace structures, build/place concrete forms and operate hand or power tools.

Duties consist of:

• Operates large industrial sewing machines, such as thermal patching, button replacement and marking machines.
• Uses of the eighty-five (85lbs) open pocket washers and one hundred and twenty (120lbs) dryers.
• Manufactures a variety of articles necessary for effective, professional procedures and proper sanitary operation of all other services.
• Makes minor adjustments, lubricates and cleans all machines assigned.
• Initiates and submits work orders as required.
• Replaces zippers, buttons and affix patches as required.

The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Operation of shuttles used for Patient Transportation, including 16-40 passenger buses, equipped with wheelchair lifts, Dual Use Vehicles (DUV), and Mobile Medical Units (MMU) along with various other vehicles.

This position is being advertised as a mid-level Apprentice Control Center Operator. The full Control Center Operator Apprentice Program is comprised of 8, 6-month developmental levels (8,000 hours total). For this vacancy, the selectee will be placed at the 6th step. The apprentice training program is in accordance with the Apprenticeship and Training Standards approved by the U.S. Department of Labor for Reclamation, MB Region. During the term of this position, the trainee is provided formal and on-the-job training to develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for the trainee to perform as a journeyman Control Center Operator.
