*The Supervisory Program Manager, Chief of SPS is also responsible for providing guidance to clinical care staff in the proper management of Reusable Medical Devices (RMD) throughout the medical center and associate Community Based Outreach Clinics (CBOCs) as applicable.
*The incumbent plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates all SPS activities necessary to effectively administer SPS operational requirements.
*The degree of specialized knowledge as well as the nature and variety of skills required in the supervisory management of the SPS Section, requires a maximum delegation authority to the Supervisory Program Manager, Chief of SPS. This individual must exercise independent judgement in all technical and managerial aspects of this complex service.
*The objectives of SPS are to provide centralized support, economy of operation and consistency in sterile processing and that decontamination procedures are performed under strictly controlled conditions.
*The RN possesses the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively apply all aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting. This broad based clinical knowledge enables the RN to effectively implement health promotion and prevention interventions, manage acute and chronic illness states, assist veterans in the attainment of optimal levels of functioning through rehabilitation.
* The registered nurse demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age related and population specific needs of the patient served in his/her assigned service area. This knowledge includes an understanding of the changes associated with aging and principles of growth and development relevant to the adult and geriatric population. He/she must be able to assess and interpret data relating to the patient's current health status, which will facilitate the delivery of care appropriate to the age specific and population specific needs of the adult and geriatric patient.
*The incumbent must obtain a recognized sterile process certification no later than one year after appointment.
*The incumbent has the overall responsibility for the supervision, administrative management and direction of the SPS. Ensures SPS functions are in compliance with all regulatory mandates.
* Maintains effective interdepartmental relationships, coordinates and resolves problems, and ensures cooperation with other programs and services.
*Ensures operations are in compliance with all safety, regulatory and accrediting requirements. Oversees orientation and training of staff.
*This position plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates all SPS activities as necessary to effectively administer SPS operational requirements. Incumbent is expected to continually provide customer service in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner while meeting the needs of the Health Care System and supporting the VA mission, vision and goals.
*The objective of SPS is to provide centralized support to patient care programs related to RMD.
*The Supervisory Program Manager, Chief of SPS, serves as program manager for the facility RMD Program and is the technical subject matter expert and advisor to management and professional staff of the Medical Center relative to RMD use.
*The incumbent's responsible for the oversight of the noncritical RMD Program.
