About the Opportunity:

The Educational Opportunity in Massachusetts Project, housed within the Annenberg Institute at Brown University, is seeking a full-time Research Associate to join our team. We study the broad effects of educational reform in Massachusetts and the ways that the public K-12 and higher education systems promote and constrain opportunity for students from diverse backgrounds. Using integrated data from several state agencies, we follow students’ progress through the educational system and into the labor force.

As one of the oldest forms of applied science and engineering, Carnegie Mellon University’s Department of Metallurgical Engineering was founded in 1906 and named after its emphasis on the study of metals. Since then, our field has broadened to include all classes of materials from ceramics and polymers to semiconductors and biological materials. Whereas early eras of civilization were widely identified by human’s ability to work with new material (Stone Age, Bronze Age), today our abilities and projects span a variety of materials and combine everything from physics and chemistry to civil and electrical engineering.

The MSE department in the College of Engineering at CMU is seeking a research scientist to

support its multiple programs in metals additive manufacturing (3D printing). These programs

include printing of heat exchangers, solar receiver panels, recuperators, and devices for methane

mitigation via oxidation. In addition to federally funded programs from multiple agencies such

as ARPA-E and SETO, there are also opportunities for industry-supported projects. The

successful candidate will be expected to work the full pipeline from design (often from other

groups) through to delivering printed parts to collaborating groups. Complementary to being

fully involved in 3D printing, materials characterization will be required for the feedstocks and

printed materials including microscopy and property measurement. The position is in the

Rollet research group. Mentoring for future faculty positions and other career opportunities

will be provided. Publishing papers from the work is expected. Excellent demonstrated
