As a Senior Attorney in one of the three branches in the Division of Enforcement & Litigation (CEL), you will serve as a legal and enforcement lead on all matters related to investigations involving potentially hazardous and violative consumer products, corrective action negotiations and agreements, litigation, and civil penalty investigations, negotiations, and referrals. The Senior Attorney’s duties include:
- Leading complex investigations of consumer products that may present substantial product hazards and negotiating sensitive and complex voluntary corrective actions agreements with manufacturers, importers, distributors, and retailers of such products.
- Leading investigations and negotiating settlement agreements of complex civil penalty matters stemming from violations of the Consumer Product Safety Act and other Acts administered by the Commission.
- Litigating administrative actions seeking mandatory product recalls, including drafting and reviewing pleadings, motions practice, hearings, and trial, typically serving as lead working with more junior Attorneys, Compliance Officers, technical experts, and litigation support staff.
- Providing legal advice to senior management and Commissioners related to regulations and policy affecting the Commission’s compliance and enforcement authority.
- Conducting presentations related to enforcement and civil penalty matters to senior management and Commissioners.
- Training Attorneys, Compliance Officers, and litigation support staff on investigative and litigation strategies, processes, and procedures.
