In this position, the incumbent will be providing direct vessel traffic management services as a Vessel Traffic Control Training Specialist in a Coast Guard Traffic Center. He or She is also responsible for promoting the safe and efficient movement of maritime traffic in assigned geographic area.
Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:
- Planning, developing, and administering training programs and/or projects.
- Developing training budget proposals.
- Analyzing and communicating a variety of nautical data, such as current, tide, weather, including wind and storm alerts, visibility, and water depth.
- Providing tracking or other sensor information in support of Coast Guard missions, including maritime traffic management, homeland security, port security, search and rescue, law enforcement, and military missions.
- Operating a variety of surveillance sensors, communications, data processing, keyboard and other electronic equipment.
- Analyzing laws and regulations to support the development of VTS operating procedures and training material.
- Developing and delivering classroom and electronic learning, which may involve interactive internet-based training, multimedia programs, simulators, distance learning, videos and other computer-aided instructional technologies.
