In support of the Department of Transportation’s strategic goals, AOC provides well-coordinated, innovative, creative, and effective communications programs and campaigns that incorporate traditional public affairs and media relations support, with modern digital tactics. AOC also provides a full suite of resources covering administrative operations, media requests, press liaison activities, webmaster duties, speechwriting, live event planning, and social media responsibilities.
The incumbent serves as Deputy Manager of the Media Relations Division, in the Office of Communications (AOC). Works in conjunction with and at the direction of the Media Relations Manager to manage staff, daily operations, planning efforts, strategic vision, and the delivery of accurate information in a timely and efficient manner. Oversees various media relations responsibilities and leads select enterprise communications projects and activities. Develops comprehensive communications plans and strategies and advises on crisis management to determine the best approach. In the absence of the Media Relations Division Manager, the incumbent acts as the alter ego and assumes full responsibility and authority in the operation of the Division.
In addition to working closely with the Media Relations Manager, the incumbent also works closely with the Assistant Administrator for Communications (AOC-1), the Deputy Assistant Administrator for Communications (AOC-2), AOC's Management Advisor, and other managers and staff to collaborate, identify communication opportunities and deliverables. Coordinates and collaborates with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) throughout the FAA to gather information and to build messaging around complex issues involving programs, projects, and initiatives.
The incumbent accomplishes tasks assigned to the organization directly through the supervision of employees. Directs the work of the employees assigned to the organization. Integrates work of multiple organizations to meet strategic goals and participates in strategic planning for the FAA. Ensures all communications strategies and products align with DOT, the agency’s priorities and goals.

Organizes programs and activities in accordance with the mission and goals of the organization. Develops new programs to support the strategic direction of the organization. Creates and manages long-term goals. Navigates complex program issues and develops an evaluation method to assess program strengths and identify areas for improvement.
The incumbent serves as a strategic partner to colleagues across the FAA. Manages relationships internal and external to the FAA, with reporters, editors, producers, and other media covering aviation topics and issues applicable to the agency. Serves as an on-the-record spokesperson for the agency, as appropriate.
The incumbent works in collaboration with the Manager to set priorities for the team, plan work functions, assign tasks and responsibilities, manage the workflow within the Division, coach and develop staff, monitor and evaluate the performance of employees, approve leave and take or approve corrective/disciplinary actions, as applicable.
Division Management Team support: Responsible for communicating the organization’s vision and objectives. Defines, acquires, and allocates resources to accomplish objectives for projects/ programs across multiple functions and/or disciplines.
