The Machine Learning Department within the School of Computer Science is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate as part of the Simons Collaboration on Learning the Universe. We seek researchers with a PhD in machine learning or a related area who are enthusiastic about collaborating with colleagues in the physical sciences particularly physics, astrophysics, and cosmology.
The Simons collaboration is a large international effort spanning multiple institutes including researchers from CMU, Columbia University, Harvard University, Princeton University, Lawrence Berkeley National Labs, the Flatiron Institute and international partners from Canada, France, Germany, and Sweden. The postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to both lead their own projects as well as collaborate with larger teams and mentor students. The faculty hosts and primary mentors for the fellow will be Aarti Singh and Barnabas Poczos, and we will be working most closely with Shirley Ho from the Flatiron Institute.
Specific areas of technical research include deep learning, generative models, foundation AI models, physics informed ML models, uncertainty quantification, robustness, and transfer learning. Applicants are expected to have some prior experience in one or more of these research areas. The project will involve both the development of novel AI methodologies which leverage physical laws and constraints as well as their evaluation with physical simulations and real-world datasets. The project can also have a theoretical analysis aspect, but is not required, depending on the qualifications and interest of the applicant.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated interest in connecting machine learning with societal issues.
AI-SDM is a highly interdisciplinary, collaborative environment, and the focus of this position is to serve as a bridge across the institute’s projects. To that end, the postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to both lead their own projects as well as collaborate with larger teams and mentor students. The faculty hosts and primary mentors for the fellow will be Aarti Singh and Bryan Wilder. Specific areas of technical research include online learning, sequential decision making, experimental design, and causal inference. The fellow will collaborate with both researchers in the social and behavioral sciences and partners in public health domains to improve interventions in impactful public health settings such as maternal and child health. We are seeking creative and energetic research assistant (RA) that will be engaged in approved research projects according to defined protocols and procedures, including the appropriate collection, recording, storage, and analysis of data (audiovisual video-recording, survey completion on smartphone, data acquisition, and data transfer between different sites). Responsibilities:
Recruit participants for research studies.
Perform approved research project tasks according to defined protocols and procedures including appropriate collection, recording, storage, and analysis of data, and reporting of results.
Ensure the proper preparation of equipment calibration for research project.
Maintain appropriate equipment maintenance and usage by ensuring the adherence to laboratory standards.
Follow appropriate research policies and procedures and maintains scientific integrity including accurate data storage.
Communicate the daily progress of research projects via meetings with, and written reports to the research director.
Responsible for following the mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or event that did affect or potentially could affect the project goals and workflow.
Optimize protocols and improve methods currently employed.
Coordinates work consistently to achieve maximum productivity.
Demonstrates ability to deal with changes in priorities to provide smooth and consistent workflow.
Interacts with interdisciplinary professional partners.

Requirements:
Master or bachelor degree in computer science and/or medical science or related field of study.
Two years’ experience in a research environment with at least one year in the designated specialty of research.
Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Strong organization and planning skills, careful attention to detail with strong follow-through, able to prioritize and organize tasks effectively to accomplish objectives in a timely matter.
Strong computer skills and advanced knowledge in file management, transcription, and other administrative procedures (Microsoft Office, Excel and other databases.).
Enthusiastic about collaborating with partners from multiple disciplines and institutions.

The WebAssembly Research Center (WRC) at Carnegie Mellon University is looking to hire a full-time software engineer to build and support software that is key to the WRC’s mission. This includes designing and building new software as well as improving and maintaining software developed in research projects (e.g., by students). A key need is to create demos and tutorials of software tools as well as maintain such demos and tutorials and the underlying software. Carnegie Mellon University’s University Libraries and the Entertainment Technology Center (ETC) is seeking a Chief Advancement Officer who will help lead the effort to develop the philanthropic support that will enable CMU and its academic units to fulfill their potential and continue their ascent. The Chief Advancement Officer will join the organization as CMU strives to elevate its Advancement program and build on the success of Make Possible: The Campaign for Carnegie Mellon University.
The Chief Advancement Officer will report to the Helen and Henry Posner Jr. Dean of University Libraries, a leadership position that oversees a number of academic and interdisciplinary departments and programs. These include the University Libraries, the Entertainment Technology Center, IDeATe, and CMU’s sustainability programs.
Partnering closely with the Dean, the Chief Advancement Officer will help set a strategic advancement vision for the University Libraries, the Entertainment Technology Center (ETC), IDeATe and CMU’s sustainability programs with oversight of a broad range of unit-level advancement functions encompassing major gifts, donor relations, annual giving, events, alumni and constituent engagement, and management of the unit’s advisory board. The Chief Advancement Officer also will serve as a member of the Dean’s leadership team The Chief Advancement Officer will be a senior leader within the Division of University Advancement and serve as a member of the CMU Advancement Leadership Council.
The Chief Advancement Officer will manage the advancement staff assigned to their academic unit and will carry a portfolio of the unit’s top prospects, executing cultivation and solicitation strategies and securing major, leadership, and principal gifts. They also will be responsible for identifying, refining, and articulating their unit’s fundraising needs, communicating those needs to internal and external audiences, and generating excitement for the Dean's top priorities while ensuring that frontline fundraisers across the university are equipped to advocate for their vision.
University Advancement at CMU is a matrixed and distributed organization, with staff based in central units and in the academic units. The Chief Advancement Officer is key to integrating college level advancement operations with centrally based advancement programs and resources. The Chief Advancement Officer will collaborate with fundraisers across CMU’s schools, colleges, and centrally based units to develop cultivation and engagement strategies to achieve maximum impact across the institution. They will also partner closely with Advancement Information Services to define, measure, and report on their unit’s success.
In the context of the momentum of CMU’s continued ascent, it seeks a Chief Advancement Officer with the skills to ensure University Libraries and the Entertainment Technology Center play a defining role in the continued evolution of its field, and in the future of Carnegie Mellon.

Your core responsibilities will include:
EEG-based Brain Computer Interface (BCI). Developing BCI decoding algorithms and BCI strategies that integrate ML with human learning, and evaluation in human subjects. Focus is on motor imagery paradigms.
EEG/MEG Source Imaging and Localization. Developing source imaging algorithms to localize and image locations, extents, and temporal dynamics of brain activation and image functional connectivity and networks from scalp recorded EEG/MEG. The project mainly involves algorithm development and data analysis.
Transcranial Focused Ultrasound (tFUS) Neuromodulation. Developing tFUS techniques (hardware or software) and investigating the mechanisms of tFUS neuromodulation in in vivo rodents, and human applications.
