A Lead Infectious Disease Physician's duties and responsibilities at the Syracuse VA Medical Center:
- Provide general Infectious Disease services in keeping with good clinical practice and standards of the Infectious Disease Section and Medicine Service at the Syracuse Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center and SUNY Upstate Medical University.
- Close supervision and education of the Infectious Disease fellows and medical residents in their clinical activities whenever working with them in clinical care.
- Close collaboration with our University Affiliate to promote our missions of education, research, and development of our fellows in training to use evidenced based medical care.
- Collaboration with the physician extenders and nursing care providers in our Facility and Community Based Outreach Clinics (CBOCs).
- Be a resource for Primary Care providers to assist in the timely care of patients and appropriate referral to Infectious Disease if/when necessary.
- Provide expertise in multispecialty and patient care related discussions.
- Provide in-patient Infectious Disease consultation services in rotation.
- Provide outpatient care and perform clinical procedures as necessary within the Infectious Disease section.
- Function as an active member of the Infectious Disease section within the Department of Medicine at the Syracuse VA.
- Maintain Infectious Disease and Internal Medicine board certification and training.
- You will be expected to be in compliance with the Medical Staff bylaws and will complete all medical records timely through CPRS (Computerized Patient Record System) in accordance with VA Policies and Regulations.
- All attending physicians are expected to participate in ongoing process improvements within their specific areas of expertise thereby promoting quality, efficiency, and timely access to care for our veteran patients.
- You will be expected to promote a cooperative and collegial environment within your area.
- Ensure evidence based medicine practices are in place and followed by all infectious disease staff members and clinical providers in the Service for the best possible outcomes for our patients.
- You will actively participate in, and facilitate programs helping to prevent infection in our facility and appropriate antibiotic selection (i.e. the MRSA prevention initiative, and the Antibiotic Stewardship program).
- You will actively participate on the facility Clinical Infectious Disease committee.
