SMU as well as Singapore government agencies, such as the National Research Foundation, provide generous support for high-quality research proposals.

A noteworthy example of our funded research is the Living Analytics Research Centre (LARC), operated jointly with Carnegie Mellon University; LARC focuses on building technologies for Social Media Sensing and Analytics, and applying them in Singapore’s Smart Nation initiatives. In the area of Cybersecurity, SCIS has a Secure Mobile Centre that conducts research into mobile device, cloud, and platform security.

Our Education. SCIS has more than 100 students taking the Ph.D. in Information Systems and Ph.D. in Computer Science programmes. Ph.D. students can concentrate in any of our computer science oriented research areas, or in our management science oriented Information Systems & Management research area.

SCIS launched a Professional Doctoral Degree, Doctor of Engineering (EngD) in 2021. The programme aims to train students to become IT leaders with deep technical expertise for innovating, designing and managing complex IT systems.

SCIS also offers Master of IT in Business (MITB), a professionally oriented coursework programme, which has more than 500 students. The programme supports a Financial Technology & Analytics track focusing on FinTech and the integration of Technology & Operations in Banking, an Analytics track focusing on applied analytics for business, consumer and social insights, as well as an Artificial Intelligence (AI) track that emphasises building AI-enabled business applications.

Additionally, we have over 2,300 undergraduate students in our B.Sc. (Computer Science), B.Sc. (Information Systems), B.Sc. (Computing & Law) and B.Sc. Software Engineering programmes. The programmes have been remarkably successful in demonstrating educational innovations and creating a culture of learning, establishing external linkages and partnerships with industry, government and the social sector, and with job placement. The School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Professional (STEP) deliver a key part of the College’s provision with programmes ranging from Level 1 to Level 6 HE, including an extensive apprenticeship provision.

The School is divided into a number of sections, with these roles based in the Further Education Business Section. This section delivers a range of vocational Business BTEC Level 1 to Level 3 programmes together with T levels in Accounting and Finance.

We are now seeking two Lecturers, one to teach on a variety of Business courses and levels across the curriculum area, including but not limited to: BTEC Business Studies Level 1, 2 & 3 and a Lecturer with an Accounting / Finance Specialism to teach primarily on the T-Level Finance and Accounting (Level 3) along with the BTEC Business Studies Level 1, 2 & 3.

As Lecturer in Business (Accounting Specialism), you will take responsibility for the group tutorship of one or more of courses within the School and contribute to the development of existing and new provision, as well as the implementation of flexible and cost effective teaching and learning styles.

We’re looking for someone who has excellent teaching skills and relevant teaching experience on BTEC programmes in Business, across a range of levels. You will hold a degree or relevant professional qualification in an appropriate subject and be able to support, motivate and empathise with learners, including monitoring their progress.

With energy, enthusiasm and passion for the subject and education, you will have high personal standards and expectations and be aware of academic quality standards. A teaching qualification is not essential however we do ask that you are willing to achieve one in line with current regulations.

N-GAP: Nanophotonic GAtes with exciton-Polaritons

One of the main goals in the field of quantum technologies is to achieve quantum computing.

Many technologies and platforms have been suggested to build a quantum computer, including ions, atoms, electrons, and superconducting materials. Among these options, all-integrated photonic platforms that allow creating complex circuitry with a small footprint are very promising.

In N-GAP we will explore and exploit a hybrid state of light and matter, the excitonic polariton, to create a platform for quantum computing. Exciton polaritons, which emerge from the strong-coupling of an exciton and a photon, exhibit Kerr nonlinearities typically three orders of magnitude stronger than that found in standard photonic nonlinear crystals.

The main objective of N-GAP is to further enhance the nonlinearity of the polariton systems to achieve the first experimental realisation of a deterministic CNOT gate based on polariton systems, which is the essential building block of a quantum computer.

She/he will build analytical models describing the joint dynamics of optical non-linearities and propagating pulses of light in the quantum regime of interaction. A fully Hamiltonian dynamics is targeted, unlocking access to light-matter entangled states and the possibility to explore various optimization regimes for the quantum processes at play. The post-doc will be involved in the modeling of the first experiments in the quantum regime realized in the group of Maxime Richard (MajuLab, CQT).

Working environment- The research fellow will be hosted in the group of Alexia Auffèves in MajuLab, CQT, Singapore. The group is pioneer in the modelling of interactions between quantum emitters and propagating pulses of light. She/he will be involved in a network of collaborations with leading experimental groups in quantum computing with light. She/he will integrate the vibrant environment of the Centre for Quantum Technologies, a long-standing powerhouse of quantum. She/he will engage in the fast-paced Singaporean ecosystem, a multicultural hub and Asian leader in deep tech.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

• PhD in quantum physics, with a focus on quantum optics and quantum open systems. Past experimental collaborations will be a strong plus.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Academic Support

• Deliver and/or facilitate course lectures / tutorials / lab sessions related to the domain expertise, according to prescribed lesson plans to meet the desired learning outcomes and create an engaging and enriching environment for learning.
• Coordinates with course coordinators / course leaders and/or associates regarding course assessments, moderation, and examination.

Academic Quality Assurance

• Implement SIM GE academic processes, policies and procedures.
• Maintain robust/fair and rigorous assessment standards and workflow.

Administrative Support to Relevant Divisions and/or Departments

• Provide inputs to internal administrative divisions and/or departments on teaching and learning development in the domain areas offered by SIM GE and University Partners.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• A minimum of a Master’s degree with good knowledge in at least two *disciplines within the department is required.
• Relevant work and teaching experience in at least two *disciplines relevant to the department in a higher education environment is required.
• Knowledge of digital learning tools and the ability to select teaching methods appropriate for the industry and audience is an added advantage.

Teaching & Learning

• Take on the role as the Programme Leader and Module Leader as assigned.
• Manage the team of associate lecturers including lecture induction, class observations, and conduct staff development seminars.
• Design and develop high-quality curriculum and course materials within the existing academic framework.
• Review and ensure all coursework and exam assessments meet the intended learning outcomes of each module according to the course and module specification.
• Administer the setting and marking of coursework and examination, conduct internal moderation of all coursework with marking guides and QPMS examination in alignment with the course and module specification.
• Facilitate the internal moderation of all coursework and examination results in alignment with the course and module specification before presentation to the end of term for Module/Subject Assessment Board and Program Assessment Board.
• Facilitate university site visits, the university audits and program reviews.
• Conduct objective assessments on coursework and examination appeal cases.
• Supervise Undergraduate and Postgraduate Final Year Projects/Dissertation/Research Work and facilitate the classes/workshops as assigned.
• Prepare and conduct lectures and tutorials/workshops/lab sessions/studio sessions as assigned (including overseas if required).
• Review the student module evaluation and conduct the student focus groups or Student-Staff Liaison meetings.
• Engage in student development by providing strong learning support and monitoring of students’ academic performances.
• Advise students with respect to academic performance, career opportunities, and pursuit of advanced studies.
• Develop online learning strategies with a duality of pedagogical functions (online learning, blended learning).
• Support or lead the projects in setting up with new or existing partner University or industry partner, and to prepare the documentation needed for the approval process.

Research & Knowledge Exchange

• Expected to have research skills and familiar with SPSS, R, Excel, NVIVO, Novi Survey and other statistical modelling and online survey software.
• Expected to have knowledge and understanding of e-learning platforms.

Teamworking

• Review and approve teaching assignments as proposed by programme executives.
• Extend and enhance the work of the department by promoting programmes and encouraging staff to develop innovative approaches to activities such as student recruitment and retention.
• Attend department and programme meetings in order to contribute to the decision making process and to develop productive working relationships within and across teams.

Miscellaneous duties

• Other administrative duties/projects as assigned by Reporting Officer.
• Participate in the school’s events, marketing campaigns and projects.

Requirements:

• PHD Holder (At least a pass at GCE ‘O’ level or its equivalent in the language medium of the programme/module.)
• 3-4 years of experience with teaching experience preferred.
• Experience or knowledge of module and/or programme leadership, development, and administration within a higher education environment.
• Have taught various business disciplines but not limited to Leadership and Ethics, Entrepreneurship, Brand Management, Business Venturing, International Business, Innovation, Business Strategy as well as Hospitality.
• Evidence of engagement in professional practice and the ability to design, deliver and assess a range of modules in and related to specialist areas of professional practice.
• Professional certification such as Google certification will be an added advantage.
• Teaching qualifications, e.g. Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA), Advanced Certificate in Learning and Performance (ACLP) and Diploma in Adult and Continuing Education (DACE) will be an added advantage.
• Experience in new programme development and managing university programmes (UK /Australia/America).
• Experience in working with digital technology including an interest in emerging technology and techniques and maintaining an active interest in related developments within the sector.
• An understanding of the changing landscape within the education sector nationally and internationally.
• Willing to work shift hours when needed (e.g. evenings and/or weekends).

Job Scope:

- Collaborate with external partners and manage after-school programmes where he/she will assist in the attendance and overall discipline of the group of students,

- Assist Assistant Year Head (AYH) in charge with designing customised daily after-school programmes with prospective partners for segmented groups of high needs (HN) students to motivate and engage them to attend school,

- Keep close monitoring on specific information of individual HN students during and after school

- Assist in the organising Learning Journey for HN students with AYH in charge; and

- Provide support to administrative operations and carry out any other tasks/duties assigned by Administration Manager & School Leaders.

Working Hours:

• Mondays to Thursdays: 7:30am to 5:00pm, inclusive of 1hr lunch break

• Fridays: 7:30am to 4:30pm, inclusive of 1hr lunch break

• Service not required on Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted public holidays
