How we are currently working

We welcome applications for this role from across the UK. RPS supports and works in a hybrid way, which means you will be able to work from home, however, there will be an expectation for collaborative face-to-face working – on average and typically this may be something between 4-8 working days per month at our London Office.

The full-time hours are 37.5 hours per week. We are open to discuss flexible working arrangements but working a minimum 22.5 hours per week over 3 days. We also offer hybrid working. The base is listed as Brighton General Hospital in Brighton but there some flexibility regarding base.

Patient / Dispensary Services To follow procedures relating to good dispensing practice, and to maintain high standards and orderly methods of working To comply with the Trust Formulary and dispensary policies To effectively clinically screen prescriptions, including clinical trials and professionally resolve any problems or refer when appropriate To take responsibility for the clinical appropriateness of prescriptions in the dispensary which have not previously been clinically screened by a Pharmacist To effectively and efficiently educate patients about their medicines To deal with members of staff in a professional manner To undertake medicines management and other departmental audits To undertake dispensing and checking of controlled drugs including maintenance of accurate records and stock holdings. Ward based clinical pharmacy services To provide a clinical pharmacy service to a ward area with the support of senior pharmacists. This involves ensuring that the medicines reconciliation process is completed, constituting the accurate documentation of a detailed and thorough medication history and the reconciliation of all discrepancies between the history and the prescribed in-patient medication. It is also important that the following tasks are completed; accurate patients own drugs are appropriately assessed, dispensing for discharge is facilitated, dispensing of medicines on the ward for patients to take home, and educating patients on the use of their medicines To identify drug interactions, prioritise these and take appropriate action (which may include referral to a more senior member of staff) to ensure the safe use of medicines To identify medication errors on admission and discharge, or on prescriptions initiated during the patients inpatient stay, appropriately prioritise and act to remedy them to ensure patient safety - which may include referral to a more senior member of the team To identify deviations from guidelines, appropriately and act to remedy them - which may include referral to a more senior member of staff To seek ways of improving the quality of prescribing thus reducing risk and decreasing drug expenditure Support adherence to the relevant Trust Formulary as appropriate To complete all documentation according to the trust and departmental policies To provide advice to nursing staff on the administration of drug therapy and management and storage of drugs at ward level To work effectively as part of a team in a multi-disciplinary and pharmacy environment, and maintain rapport with medical and other colleagues To effectively and efficiently educate patients about their medicines To deal with members of staff in a professional manner. Weekend and On-call service The pharmacy service operates a weekend and on-call service and potholders will participate on a rota basis, which includes nights, extended late duties, weekend commitments and bank holidays. Detailed job description and main responsibilities We recognize the importance of flexibility in tailoring the role to the preferences of the candidate. The balance between clinical and educational responsibilities can be adjusted to capitalise on the candidate's strengths and interests, as long as it aligns with the overall needs of the pharmacy team and the Trust. The post-holder will develop, manage, and promote education and training for all pharmacy staff at LUHFT. They will help to shape the strategic direction in consultation with the Education and Training Pharmacist. Key responsibilities Along with the Lead Clinical Pharmacist, Education and Training, develop, manage, implement and evaluate education and training policies for the pharmacy Provide clinical training for pharmacy undergraduates, pre-registration pharmacists and pre-registration technicians, post-registration pharmacists, and technicians. Support the training and competency assessment of the rotational training programme for junior pharmacists. Facilitate CPD for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. Support revalidation of pharmacists and technicians as set out by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). Assist in the delivery of the trainee pharmacist programme and act as a designated supervisor for trainee pharmacists Act as a clinical tutor to postgraduate students and pre-registration pharmacists as required. Support revalidation of pharmacists and technicians as set out by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and training for support staff to ensure the roles of pharmacy team members evolve to meet the needs of the service. Contribute to the development and delivery of education and training on medicines to other healthcare professionals, particularly nurses and medical Deputise for the Lead Clinical Pharmacist, Education and training at Trust and regional education meetings/ committees and other meetings as necessary.
