We are seeking to employ an enthusiastic and proficient technician to provide essential support for the school’s highly achieving Science Faculty. You will give a practical, technical service to members of the teaching staff through the preparation and provision of equipment, apparatus and chemicals for experiments and demonstrations.
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate their ability to work effectively within a team, and under their own initiative. Although a sound scientific knowledge, experience of handling and preparing chemicals, and assembling apparatus could be advantageous, this is not essential as full training will be provided if you are enthusiastic about science and keen to learn.
Working within a team of experienced technicians, and under the guidance of a Senior Technician, you will support students aged 11 to 19 in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Health and Safety will be a key part of your role, and you may also carry out Portable Appliance Testing within the Science Faculty; training for this and other aspects of the role will be provided where appropriate.

Key Responsibilities:

Machine Operation and Maintenance

• Safely set up, adjust, and operate a range of textile machines, including single jersey knitting machines, carding, yarn spinning equipment, yarn melting machines, woven machines, and other lab-scale instruments.
• Conduct routine maintenance tasks on machines and testing lab equipment, such as troubleshooting, coordinating with vendors for repairs, and scheduling regular maintenance.
• Basic understanding of electrical parts repair and troubleshooting is beneficial.

Quality Control and Testing

• Utilize measurement devices to ensure accurate production and conduct standard quality testing procedures on yarns, fabrics, non-woven materials, and membranes.
• Familiarity with general laboratory equipment like hotplates and hot-press machines is advantageous.

Adaptability and Documentation

• Quickly adapt to new equipment and processes, as well as evolving measuring procedures.
• Maintain meticulous records in the laboratory journal, documenting sample preparation conditions and testing results accurately.

Safety and Compliance

• Implement and adhere to all safety protocols and regulations within the laboratory environment.
• Attend regular safety training sessions, maintain safety records, and uphold safe working conditions.
• Ability to lift up feeders with polymers, containers and other parts of machinery up to 10-15 kg weight is necessary.

Job Requirements:

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Experience working with textile manufacturing machinery is preferred but not mandatory.
• Strong willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team.
