SUMMARY

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Leadership. Provides knowledge, expertise and guidance to a team of access associates; assist in training new employees; serve as a resource to others in the resolution of complex issues  
• Customer Service. Manage incoming calls and provide necessary information; greet patients and/or their representatives and provide direction as needed; schedule patient appointments; interview patients and/or their representatives to obtain necessary information
• Registration & Verification. Complete the registration process for patients and/or their representatives; verify insurance eligibility/coverage and obtain necessary pre-certifications/authorizations when applicable
• Billing & Payments. Collect/process co-payments, deductibles and/or other types of payments; provide cost estimates when applicable; review charges in charge review WQs for completeness and accuracy

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. OIG's Office of Investigations (OI) investigates potential crimes and civil violations of law involving VA programs and operations committed by VA employees, contractors, beneficiaries, and other individuals. These investigations focus on a wide range of matters including health care, procurement, benefits, education, construction, and other fraud; cybercrime and identity theft; bribery, embezzlement, and conflicts of interest; drug offenses; and violent crimes. OI is staffed by special agents, forensic accountants, analysts, and other professional staff in headquarters divisions and regional field offices that use data analytics, cyber-tools, covert operations, and other strategies to detect and address conduct that poses a threat to or has harmed VA personnel, operations, and the veterans or other beneficiaries they service. Through criminal prosecutions and civil monetary recoveries, OI's investigations promote integrity, patient safety, efficiency, and accountability within VA.

The Criminal Investigator (Special Agent), located in Los Angeles, CA or Long Beach, CA in the Western Field Office, is responsible for planning, managing, conducting, and concluding (independently, jointly, or as a team leader) complex and sensitive criminal, civil, and administrative investigations and other matters involving VA's programs and operations.

The duties of the Criminal Investigator (Special Agent), include:

• Functioning as a law enforcement officer, including carrying authorized firearms and other enforcement equipment; applying for and executing arrest and search warrants; interviewing witnesses, victims, suspects and defendants; apprehending, searching, and transporting suspects and defendants.
• Initiating contacts with Federal, state, and local law enforcement officials, civic and business leaders, officials from financial institutions, medical facilities, and other organizations and individuals for the purpose of obtaining facts, signed statements, and developing investigative leads and cooperation.
• Collecting and analyzing operational and strategic intelligence from wide-ranging sources including Federal, State, and local law enforcement agencies.
• Conducting investigations in compliance with OIG policies and procedures, investigative standards promulgated by the Council of the Inspectors General (CIGIE), and the provisions of the Attorney General Guidelines for Offices of Inspector General with Statutory Law Enforcement Authority.
• Identifying material, systemic weaknesses or failures in VA operations and/or processes during investigations and prepares reports outlining possible solutions to the issues uncovered.

Starting at $61,275 Per Year (GL 7-9)

The Resident Engineer functions include supporting the Senior Resident Engineer by participating in design management with the Project Manager and the VA Medical Center stakeholders, when applicable; monitoring various on-going construction activities and schedule for conformance with contract requirements. The position oversees civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, or architectural aspects of construction; supporting processing of easements, pertinent deeds, local requirements, and restrictions. Also, supports coordination of various phases of construction with the VAMC Director or assigned representative and staff to minimize disruption to on-going hospital activities.

Work schedule: Required to work Monday through Friday, approximately 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.

The incumbent will utilize wood, metal, and various composite materials when installing or replacing interior partitions, flooring, panels, suspended ceilings, countertops, and moldings. Incumbent will also interpret drawings, blueprints, and/or specifications independently and determine the layout, work sequences and/or types of lumber or special related materials. In this position the incumbent will plan and/or carry out a project from initial layout to completion. Duties include but are not limited to the following:

• Construct, alter, repair, and/or modifies items and structures, such as frameworks, doors, windows, screens, desks, chairs, panic hardware, work benches, cabinets, display racks, counter tops and shelves.
• Install various forms of drywall i.e., type "x" or lead-lined drywall.
• Fit and hang doors.
• Drill metal and wood doors for hardware.
• Install ceiling tile and "T" bars.
• Layout and install wall protection, such as stainless steel or vinyl sheets.
• Repair and install cove base.
• Hang pictures, portraits or any other items on the wall in a safe and secure manner.
• Set up and operate a wide variety of wood working machines and tools.
• Assemble items with a variety of joining techniques, such as miters, rabbets, dados, biscuit, mortise and tenon and/or uses glues and/or adhesive to secure wood pieces, veneers and/or counter tops.
• Utilize wood, metal, and various composite materials when installing or replacing interior partitions, flooring, panels, suspended ceilings, counter tops and/or moldings.
• Interpret drawings, blueprints and/or specifications independently and determine the layout and/or work sequences and/or types of lumber or special related materials.
• Plan and carry out a project from initial layout to completion.
• May assist with minor duties in Masonry, Plastering, Roofing, Painting and/or Tile Setting.
