WORKING HOURS: 37 Hours per Week, 52 Weeks per Year on a rotating shift pattern which can include early mornings, days, evenings and half a day on Saturday

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a School Caretaker / Site Facilities Assistant & Maintenance Operative who is an energetic, physically fit, pro-active and organised handyperson with good computer skills.

Working as the School Caretaker / Site Facilities Assistant & Maintenance Operative your day-to-day duties could include:

• Unlocking/locking up the school
• Key holding and emergency response
• Ensuring rooms are set up for functions
• Day-to-day maintenance
• Ad-hoc cleaning
• Grounds works
• Health and safety checks (full training given)
• Using a computerised system for logging jobs and record keeping

As the School Caretaker / Site Facilities Assistant & Maintenance specific trade strengths in any area would be an advantage but not essential. Lifting, moving and handling of furniture and deliveries also form an important part of the job.

Full health and safety training will be given.


CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

As the School Caretaker / Site Facilities Assistant & Maintenance Operative you will have the following skills and experience:

• Must be physically fit as the job will involve moving school furniture, using ladders, handling deliveries and moving other equipment around the school

• Must have good time-keeping skills, be organised and be able to prioritise tasks

• Must be computer literate

• Specific trade strengths in any area would be an advantage but not essential

• Due to the hours/shift patterns of the job own transport is essential

You will be working from Redehall School in Smallfield, Caterham Education Centre in Caterham and Poppyfield School in Effingham. You will be responsible for ensuring that all matters relating to the continuous operation, grounds and equipment are maintained in such a way that ensures a high quality site service is provided at all times thus ensuring the safeguarding, health, safety and general well-being of all those accessing the site. You will be working with the premises manager you will also contribute to the development of the services through site expansion projects and integrating new/developed buildings. Our students range from 6 – 16 years old across the sites with difficulties with communication and social interaction, typically associated with Autism. Redehall School, Caterham Education Centre and Poppyfield School all share the same Principal, but all other staff are separate, although the sites operate separately, students and staff do cross between sites. Respond to and resolve Ad hoc maintenance requests via online ticketing software. Organise and carry out the collection and movement of furniture and equipment as directed. Ensure all fire and safety equipment and systems are functional and that safety awareness is promoted.Support the Annual Fire Risk Assessment process.Carry out monthly vehicle check audits and report any concerns. Ensure the safe storage of tools and equipment and help to maintain the equipment register.Play a full part in building good relationships with other staff, students and stakeholders. Carry out regular planned maintenance inspection on services, utilities and the building fabric throughout the school. Report findings and take necessary actions.Maintain the school grounds to an acceptable level. Ensure all school buildings are fit for purpose and maintained well to provide a suitable education environment for the pupils.Skills and Qualifications Flexibility and sensitivity to the needs of a wide range of users with complex needs is essential. Understands and can apply Legislation and Regulations relating to all aspects of site management e.g. to fire, health and safety, Legionella, asbestos, security, COSHH and Safeguarding (within a college/ school environment preferred). Competent at basic building repairs and maintenance and grounds maintenance and to effectively delegate and monitor work of others. Computer literacy skills essential due to the utilisation of the internal CAFM system. Knowledge of current Health & Safety regulations. Health and Safety qualification desirable. Ability to liaise with staff at all levels of technical knowledge. Enthusiastic and pro-active, keen to be involved. General maintenance knowledge preferably with a qualification in electrics / plumbing.
