Responsibility of Position:
As the GIS Officer for the Forest & Coastal Programme at GEC, your responsibilities will include:
- Providing technical support on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications and tools for forest and coastal management projects;
- Implementing GIS-based projects on community-based management of forests, wetlands and agroforestry in Malaysia, including conservation, rehabilitation, hydrology management, fire prevention and control, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, agroforestry, and other relevant areas;
- Developing spatial analysis and mapping products to support project planning, monitoring, and evaluation;
- Collaborating with project teams to integrate GIS into project activities and decision-making processes;
- Managing and maintaining GIS databases, ensuring data quality, integrity, and security;
- Conducting spatial analysis, modeling, and visualization to support project objectives;
- Supporting capacity building and knowledge sharing on GIS tools and applications within project teams and partner organisations;
- Assisting in the development of spatial data infrastructure and standards for project implementation;
- Contributing to the development and implementation of awareness and education programs related to GIS and spatial data for stakeholders, including school students, local communities, and other relevant groups; and
- Representing GEC at local and national meetings, conferences, and seminars related to GIS and spatial data management.
Job Requirements:
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimum supervision;
- A degree in geographic information system technology. geography, environmental science, natural resource management, or a related field;
- Minimum 3-6 years of relevant working experience involving GIS analysis and application in community development or natural resource management projects.
- Proficiency in GIS software such as Esri Malaysia, ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar platforms.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work in field conditions and adapt to irregular working hours as required.
- Pleasant personality with good public relations capabilities.
- Fluent in Malay and English.
