Technical Specialist - Fuel & Optimisation
Randstad are currently recruiting for a Technical Specialist to come and work for Tata Steel in Port Talbot (SA13 2NG) within the Fuel & Optimisation department.
This position is paying around £37,000 per annum on an initial contract with the view to potentially being permanent further down the line.
This is a full-time position, working Monday to Thursdsay (8am - 4:15pm) and Friday (8am - 3:15pm) but is extremely flexible in terms of working arrangements. There is also the option for a fully remote working arrangement but any successful candidate would need to visit Port Talbot on occassion.
The Role
The ideal candidate will be at least 90% office based within the Fuel & Optimisation department, with the opporunity for the candidate to be site based if they wish to.
The ideal candidate will compile and manage reports & input and analyse data across the department.
Accountabilities -
Compile and manage Weekly Energy report inclusive of fuel, steam, nitrogen, oxygen and electricity balances.
Compile Annual Plan for the Energy Dept in conjunction with updating Latest View at the agreed frequency and provide site balances for various possible future plant configurations as requested.
Analyse energy performance and provide commentary on agreed frequency in relation to reasons for performance and identification of both tactical and strategic opportunities
Support Energy, Finance, Transformation workstreams and works areas with technical calculations relating to impact of issues, benefits, etc
Compile necessary reports to support Daily Works Management practices and consequently lowest cost operation. e.g: N2EX
Play a leading role in delivering the Safety Annual Plan for Energy and support the Fuel & Optimisation roadmap as necessary (including identifying and executing safety improvements)
Monitor Power Plant emissions and develop performance standards, procedures and contingency plans to ensure continued compliance with all legislative requirements.
Play a leading role in promoting energy awareness / fuel optimisation and act as the catalyst for development and implementation of continuous improvement opportunities.
Support the development of tactical and strategic Fuel & Optimisation Roadmap schemes in conjunction with the site de-carbonisation workstream
The ideal candidate will -
- Have strong experience with data analysis, data input/acquisition, reporting and mathematics
- Be fully competent in the use of excel
- Have substantial practical experience able to work from a basis of concepts and principles
- Demonstrates substantial organizational co-ordination capability. Able to deal effectively with conflicting operational, customer and regulatory needs in a complex environment

Communicates with all levels appropriately. Proven presentation and listening skills. Proven effective interpersonal and supervisory skills. Familiar with, and applies, a range of interpersonal and communication skills both internally and externally. Able to communicate complex technical information to non-technical audiences.
- Being educated to minimum Bachelor degree level in a suitable discipline is advantageous
