The post holder is responsible for the day to day management of an allocated portfolio of studies. This includes successful recruitment and retention of patients, strict protocol adherence, data collection, and organisation of relevant tests and procedures. They will need to have wide ranging knowledge to work on complex clinical trials and provide research participants with expert care. This post is based at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN) which is the largest division within the Specialist Hospitals Board of the University College Hospital Foundation NHS Trust. This postholder will work alongside the neuromuscular clinical research team. The post holder will be required to work according to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and relevant professional guidelines, taking responsibility for the coordination and support of clinical trials within the CNMD. Responsibilities include coordination of care of patients on trials, collection and preparation of biological samples, administration of experimental agents and monitoring of expected and unexpected side effects of drugs and other treatment modalities, and patient/carer education. The post holder will be expected to develop specialized skills and knowledge relating to the conduct of clinical trials, the therapies and relevant disease types. Managing clinical trials and clinical research from a diverse therapeutic group such as oncology, infectious diseases, renal and cardiology, you will participate in trial procedures as part of the study team in clinical research. You will assist the investigators in performing clinical trial procedures such as collection of blood samples and other biological specimens at the specific time point, administering investigational products such as drugs or medical devices, and executing precise data recording.

This post is part of the growing team in research nurses and practitioners working for the Windsor Research Unit within CPFT. They will be responsible for the set up and day to day running of Dementia studies and clinical trials across Cambridge and Peterborough, primarily supporting studies of Professor John O’Brien’s group.

The post holder will be coordinating patient care during research studies with responsibility for conducting clinical activities education and monitoring of study subjects through care pathways.

This is a 3-year fixed-term contract (37.5 hours per week).

The post holder will provide ongoing support, advice and information to patients/volunteers regarding their participation in clinical research in order to obtain effective informed consent. Liaise with patients, relatives and carers on all aspects of research activity.
