Sr Manager, Regional Senior Operations Manager- Northeast Region

The Regional Senior Operations Manager (RSOM) supports a Regional Vice President by providing leadership and strategies for cafe operations in an assigned Region by analyzing key operational insights and trends and developing strategies to optimize and grow retail operations and increase their region’s ability to improve the guest experience.

The RSOM assesses, analyzes and diagnoses the operational environment through insights derived from scorecards, Brand Standards Reviews, Missions and other data. The RSOM partners with the RVP to develop a prioritized mitigation and improvement plan, which will be executed by the Region’s operators (e.g., DROs, GMs) and market support teams to improve cafe outcomes.

The RSOM role may require working some evenings and weekends and includes up to 85% travel based on business needs and reports directly to the RVP.

Duties & Responsibilities

•  Growth Strategy and Execution

• Acts as a strategic business partner to the Regional Vice President of Operations (RVP) for all areas of operations, ensuring the right strategies are in place to achieve consistent results through the BTSs in the region.
• Directly accountable for a region’s cafe and bakery metrics performance, including the sales growth, product quality, and profitability of the café and bakery business
• Collaborate with RVP to review and develop programs as well as initiatives to ensure exceptional operational service levels and standards
• In partnership with the RVP, establishes annual, quarterly, and monthly goals and strategies to ensure the execution of the existing café and bakery business, the rollout of new items, and all related changes. This will occur through both regional development plans (created with the RVP) and market development plans (created in partnership with the DRO)
• Analyze regional performance and results by channel to determine gaps and put in place varied solutions that drive desired outcomes and deploy resources against it.
• Demonstrates a bias for action in resolving outlier performance, equipment issues that impact quality/safety, barriers to café and bakery execution, and the consistent execution of new café and tests and rollouts.
• Assists with new bakery cafe openings from pre-opening market preparation to ensuring CY and PY cafes meet their pay back goals within the allotted timeframe.
• Ensure all legal, compliance, and food safety processes are adhered to while addressing gaps quickly and directly with the responsible teams or team members while understanding the guardrails of Federal and State decisions (governance structure) as it relates to café and bakery
• Fosters a culture of Operations Mastery within a region, which is defined as ensuring a high focus and attention on high-quality café and bakery environment and products, excellence in all aspects of café and bakery execution, and high accountability through validation of core café and bakery commitments and standards
• Responsible for acting as a conduit between assigned regional bakery operations and the supporting Fresh Dough Facilities (FDF) where all dough is manufactured. This role ensures solid communications and coordination between the FDFs, as well as ongoing validation of and resolution to product quality concerns.
• Act as a strategic partner and ensure continuity of brand relative to Bakery Operations.

To support this effort, we are on the hunt for an experienced, passionate and highly skilled team member to join our in-house design studio.

With a broad mandate to deliver high quality design work in a fast-paced environment, our studio-based designers have a unique opportunity to work with a world-class design team.  The ideal Panera Design Manager is highly organized, deadline driven and effective in creating order and priorities within complex schedules. This role seeks to propel projects through the development cycle, with broad retail, restaurant and hospitality design experience. S/he has a passion for design and is able to work effectively as part of a collaborative creative team to execute projects to the highest brand standards.

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced and talented design professional to join Panera’s Store Design Studio, with experience working in high caliber creative teams. The Designer Manager will work with others on the design team and cross-functional partners and will report directly to the Directors of Store Design.  As an integral part of the design studio and broader development team, the designer will design and deliver thoughtful and highly creative café design solutions that elevate the brand while accommodating business considerations, functional goals and our typical aggressive timelines. 

Elevating Design

• Responsible for the design and overall look/feel of new and renovated cafés and to create thoughtful and highly creative regional café designs that align with current design criteria (strategies) and Panera’s high-quality brand standards.
• Actively participate in a strong creative studio culture, engage in open discourse, and leverage critical thinking skills to solve design problems. Has a passion for all things design that includes an understanding of history and current trends in design, furniture and fashion, etc.
• Approach project work, collaboration and feedback with a positive attitude and a focus on design quality and achieving business results.

The Work

• Directly responsible for the functional layout, schematic design, and furniture/material/finish palettes for Company and Franchise new and remodeled cafes, and other brands/concepts as may be identified over time.
• Bring projects into regular open-forum style design reviews as well as offline review as needed, and respond to design direction, coaching and guidance so that the projects meet Panera’s high-quality brand standards.
• Responsible for the quality, execution and timely deliverable of design development and construction drawings by Panera’s outside Architectural firms. Ensure all scope of work, design intent and federal, state and municipality code requirements are met on drawings.
• Work with Franchise partners to ensure that Panera design intent is executed to the highest standards and in coordination with their outside Architect’s design development, and construction documents.
• Support Panera’s cross-functional team goals (Company Owned and Franchise; operations, ops services, real estate, construction, etc.) in order to:
  • Deliver effective store layouts that meet functional and business needs.
  • Provide effective collaboration and communication with broader store development team so that projects meet internal project timelines and construction budgets, hit annual project counts for all project types and achieve sales weeks goals.
  • Monitor the work quality of the external architect consultants to ensure they deliver high quality construction documents that comply with architectural and quality standards, building codes and health and safety regulations, on time and on budget.

Summary of Experience

• 5+ years of broad experience, including design, detailing and preparation of construction documents.
• 3+ years of design experience in a restaurant or retail brand preferred.
• 3+ year’s management of outside architectural, MEP and/or other design consultants.
• Professional degree in Architecture, Interior Design and/or a related field of study.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Manager, Media Billing
The media team manages Panera’s paid media efforts in conjunction with planning/buying agencies. The Media Billing Manager oversees and reports on annual paid media budget plan, as well as overall Marketing program spend.  This position will require flexibility to work cross-functionally across Media and Finance, as well as Marketing leadership and external agency partners.  This position is fully embedded within the media team and will be the liaison between Marketing and Finance.

Duties & Responsibilities
Media
•    Direct report to VP, Media Strategy, responsible for management of annual media budget in alignment with strategic initiatives.
•    Manage one team member responsible for paid media budget input, plan adjustments, monthly accruals, and reconciliation.
•    Utilize budget reporting tools to manage ongoing current year forecast and actualized spend reporting for prior years.
•    Consolidate year-over-year Media spend reporting as a resource for Financial Planning & Analysis to generate café comp projections.

Manager, Benefits Infrastructure

Job Purpose

The Manager, Benefits Infrastructure supports the design, implementation, administration, communication and delivery of all benefit programs.  This role manages the analysis of daily benefit systems performance, system and program design and implementation along with management of vendor integrations and invoices, building and maintaining relationships with vendor partners, and monitoring service level agreements.

Together with the Senior Manager, this role will have varying degrees of responsibility for compliance with reporting requirements related to benefit programs, such as Affordable Care Act (ACA) measurement. Also, the role will ensure that all plan-related documentation is produced according to federal and state requirements and distributed to associates appropriately (SPDs, SBCs, etc.)  Participate in the planning, testing and data integrity of open enrollment processes. 

This position will provide required workforce and other data analytics needed to assist leadership in making fully informed decisions relative to benefit programs.  Analysis that may be necessary to guide the development and implementation of specific projects may also be directed to this position.  This role will maintain an ongoing relationship with HRIS Systems and IT support teams.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Actively monitor and audit data housed in benefits platform and HRIS system(s) to ensure proper data loading and accuracy. 
• Manage the Affordable Care Act medical eligibility for associates, working with vendor regularly to ensure data integrity and reporting are compliant.  Maintain relationship with vendor printing and fulfilling annual ACA measurement communications.
• Manage workforce analytics used in strategies to address ACA compliance.
• Manage vendor invoicing and integrations with HRIS/payroll system to ensure correct associate deductions.

Sr Manager, Product Strategy

The Senior Manager, Product Strategy will work in partnership with the Senior Director, Product Strategy to drive the growth of Panera’s categories by ensuring that the product lines deliver irresistible craveability and value, while defining the Menu, Category, Daypart and Innovation activities to achieve the goals.   

Position is ideally hybrid and based in Newton, MA.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Define Growth Strategies
  • Define clear strategies to drive growth for the business across respective areas of focus (guest segments, product categories, value offerings, dayparts and jobs to be done). They will be responsible for increasing frequency of existing customers and attracting new customers, inclusive of translation to specific projects.
  • Develop a deep understanding of competitive categories and a strategic positioning to gain market share
  • Support analysis to identify new areas for Panera to expand into where there is credibility and permission to play
  • Advise appropriate balance for respective areas of focus to grow without adding complexity – numbers of products, product ranges, pricing – with input from Finance and Culinary

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be an experienced leader, skilled in developing and executing plans across marketing, strategy and innovation. S/He should have 5+ years of prior job-related experience in restaurant category growth, CPG food or beverage brand management, or related strategic / management consulting. S/he will have experience growing and scaling a category or business. This individual enjoys developing strategic plans and rolling up sleeves to execute and evaluate. S/he will have strong strategic, creative, and analytical skills and the ability to blend art and science.
