THE ROLE
The Educational Governance and Initiatives team in the Faculty of Arts is looking for an efficient, highly organised, and proactive Accreditation and Educational Initiatives Officer to support the delivery of internal and external accreditation and initiatives activities and processes for the Faculty’s educational courses and contribute to the development and implementation of specific strategic educational initiatives within the Faculty.
Key Accountabilities
In consultation with the Head of Educational Services portfolio, Deputy Dean Education and Employability, and Heads of School and Departments oversee the administration of the end-to-end internal and external accreditation and reaccreditation processes for the Faculty’s educational courses.
Liaise with the DVC (Academic) portfolio, PVC (Programs & Pathways) and central university committees to implement internal accreditation processes and manage curriculum accreditation lifecycle ensuring the progression of accreditation matters as required, including:
Support for preparation of cases for conditional course accreditation
monitoring status of courses through internal accreditation processes, including ongoing monitoring and review requirement
Support the administration of the end-to-end external accreditation the annual planning and coordination of accreditation activities across the Faculty, ensuring alignment and coordination with relevant University processes, external bodies and course specific requirements.
Lead components and initiatives associated with the accreditation and reaccreditation of the Faculty’s education courses, including preparation of internal and external documentation and successful implementation of recommendations.
In collaboration with the Head of Educational Services leadership team, manage the development and implementation of specific academic and education initiatives for the Faculty:
Define and drive the key deliverables, milestones and timeframes for assigned initiatives
Monitor, evaluate and report against activities and milestones to ensure all deliverables are met within timelines and budgets and any potential risks are resolved or escalated
Consult with key stakeholders to gather information relating to initiatives and make recommendations to inform decision making
Scope and undertake detailed benchmarking, research and data analysis as relevant to each initiative.
Maintain knowledge and awareness of relevant internal and external accreditation policy and benchmarks including the Macquarie University Curriculum Architecture Policy, Assessment Policy and course-specific requirements and benchmarking (national and international as applicable).
Provide advice on accreditation processes and assist academic staff with accreditation submissions and documentation as required.
Work collaboratively with other areas of the University identify and implement improvements to admission processes and procedures.
Identify and escalate issues in relation to University and external policies and procedures.
Coordinate and implement decisions of relevant committees in relation to Faculty as required.
Work collaboratively with stakeholders across the Faculty and the University to identify, adopt and implement new and improvements to existing accreditation processes and systems.

About the Role:
Are you passionate about stem cell research and interested in advancing scientific discoveries? We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to lead the Primary & iPS Cell Culture Shared Resource team at Janelia. In this role, you will play a crucial part in establishing research support for iPSCs and streamlining existing primary cell culture support. Drawing from your previous experience and the current scientific literature, you will develop and refine methods for differentiating iPSC into various cell types, verifying authenticity of differentiated cells, and working with the Molecular Genomics Shared Resource to support gene editing of iPSCs. You will lead a team of research technicians and specialists who will maintain, expand, freeze, and differentiate a diverse range of iPSC lines, as well as isolate tissue from model organisms to create and maintain disassociated primary cells, slice cultures, and tissue explants. You will also be responsible for shared equipment and space for primary and iPS cell culture, developing chargeback rates for the research support provided, and working with independent labs, project teams, and visiting scientists to ensure the research support provided meets the needs of their ground breaking research.

What You'll Do:
Provide expertise in the development, culturing, and differentiation of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) to support basic science research labs.
Engage researchers in labs and project teams to sufficiently understand their research directions to offer effective services, collaborate on attaining project goals, and make suggestions for improvements.
Establish and maintain priorities, workflows, and mechanisms for service request submission, completion, and communication to the requester.
Provide oversight of shared spaces for culturing primary and iPS cells, including recommendations for space organization and equipment replacement.
Develop new services for Primary & iPS Cell Culture Shared Resources in consultation with key partners, including users, staff, and Janelia leadership.
Manage the operations, personnel, and budgets of the Primary & iPS Cell Culture Shared Resource.
What You Bring:
Bachelor of Science degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or Life Science with five years of experience culturing and differentiating iPSCs and three years of leadership and supervisory experience in a research setting. Master of Science or Ph.D. is preferred.
Demonstrated proficiency establishing, passaging, maintaining, differentiating, cryopreserving, and gene editing of iPSCs.
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and optimize culture and differentiation protocols and timelines to meet the needs of multiple research groups in a timely manner.
Knowledgeable of techniques to develop primary cells from a variety of organisms and tissues.
Experience reviewing scientific literature, following technology development in iPSC, gene editing and related fields, and applying new technologies to enhance productivity.
Demonstrated enthusiasm for challenging problems and innovative solutions.
Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, motivation, clear direction, prioritization, and build trust with a diverse team in a highly dynamic environment.
