This position is in the Facilities Department of a Regional Office in the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP).

Responsible for the management of files for maintenance, repairs, alterations, and Building/ Facilities (B&F) construction projects.

Process proposals for improvements, major repairs and replacement of institution equipment and track their progress.

Participate in staff assist visits by reviewing B&F and Computerized Maintenance Management System (iTMS) files.

Processes and/or reviews purchase requests originating in the regional office to obtain the necessary services from Architectural/Engineering (A&E) firms.

Under the supervision of a Psychologist, is responsible for the administration, mechanical or computerized scoring and distribution (or storage) of a variety of psychological tests, including Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), and the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory.

Responsible for the implementation of the Bureau of Prison’s (BOP) automated/computerized psychology data entry system including initial implementation of Psychology Data System (PDS), training of all psychology staff, routine data entry and retrieval, automated test scoring and reconciling discrepancies in the files.

Types, duplicates and distributes letters, memos, agendas, forms, certificates, meeting minutes, and reports for the Chief Psychologist.

Maintains tracking logs for Special Housing Unit monthly monitoring, clinical contacts as determined by Mental Health Care Level assignments and treatment plan requirements, monthly psychotropic compliance, suicide watch monitoring and follow-up, request for services, and incoming inmates (for Admissions and Orientation (A&O) purposes).

Purchase card holder for the department; verifies obligated expenditures do not exceed yearly budget allotments; prepares purchase orders, requisitions, and maintains accounting of department expenditures and adjustments.

Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and is performed on a regular and recurring basis.

Reviews and analyzes Regional Correctional Services’ Operations and makes recommendations to the Regional Correctional Services Administrator regarding proper utilization of manpower, standardization of procedures and security requirements, etc.

Evaluates the effectiveness of controls designed to meet security requirements, such as escape, riot and civil disturbance plans; key control, tool control and inmate accountability systems; prisoner movements, Control Center operations, tower coverage, work details and all other operations relevant to institutional security.

Responsible for redefining and implementing uniform training standards, expanding resources, and initiating Crisis Management Training (CMT) for institutions’ Special Operations Response Team (SORT), Disturbance Control Team (DCT), Planning Section Team (PST), Crisis Support Team (CST), and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT).

Participates in after-action reviews, internal institution investigations, institution threat assessments, institution’s security assessments, etc.

Assists in the preparation of manuals, bulletins, and memoranda for regionwide or individual application defining Bureau policies on correctional and security procedures.

Serves as a receptionist for visitors entering the institution, provides necessary information, and arranges for contacts with appropriate departments.

Processes all visitors entering the institution by checking their identification, and using a metal detector to ensure no weapons and contraband enter the institution.

Checks all visitors' identification upon departure from the institution to ensure against potential inmate escapes.

Initiates and responds to numerous calls within the institution, ascertaining the caller’s identity before any exchange of information.

Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.

Under the supervision of the Captain, serves as a shift supervisor in the Correctional Services department, giving supervision and guidance to a subordinate staff of correctional officers involving work performance, interpretation of policy, handling of problems concerning the inmate population.

Shares responsibility in the supervision of other correctional staff, and effectively maintains the security of the institution. In emergency situations, takes prompt and decisive action to determine the nature and cause of the emergency.

Authorizes changes in institutional operations when necessary to meet emergency situations.
 
Responsible for implementing post orders, investigates tort claims and drafts responses for administrative remedies.

Investigates reported violations of prohibited acts, (i.e. assaults, escapes, introduction of contraband, disturbances or other illicit activities), taking appropriate actions as dictated by the seriousness of the violation.

Participates in and conducts regularly scheduled instruction and training classes relating to correctional procedures and techniques and makes appropriate recommendations for training based upon assessments of needs by the incumbent.

Under the supervision of the Captain, the Lieutenant serves as a shift supervisor in the Correctional Services department, giving supervision and guidance to a subordinate staff of correctional officers involving work performance, interpretation of policy, handling of problems concerning the inmate population. In emergency situations, takes prompt and decisive action to determine the nature and cause of the emergency. Authorizes changes in institutional operations when necessary to meet emergency situations.

Responsible for implementing post orders, conducts training classes related to correctional procedures, responsible for enforcement of all rules and regulation relative to custodial security of the institution, investigates reported violations of prohibited acts, (i.e. assaults, escapes, introduction of contraband, disturbances or other illicit activities), taking appropriate actions as dictated by the seriousness of the violation. Incumbent may periodically be assigned as supervisor of a BOP bus in transporting both committed and U.S. Marshal's prisoners to and from institutions and jails.

Responsible for security of the special housing unit and the safe, secure housing of all inmates within the unit. Responsible for maintaining and documenting the various programs within the unit, i.e. feeding, recreation, unit sanitation, personal hygiene and medical. The incumbent is responsible for the care, custody and security of offenders who have been placed within the Special Housing Unit.

Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staffs correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.
