Employee plans and organizes work general assistance from the supervisor as to meet local and VA - wide time frames to complete analysis requirements, reports and special assignments and only refers to the non-routine and high technical problems to his/her supervisor. The incumbent is responsible for reporting backlogs, difficulties in meeting deadlines, uncooperative physicians, or difficulty in securing information from clinicians or the record. Employee is responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of information obtained to carry out required duties.
Routinely communicates with physicians, case managers, and other allied health professional staff using sound interpersonal skills and is constantly aware of the sensitive information. Otherwise, works independently making decisions based on guidelines, precedents and regulations and performs duties in such a manner that only minimal supervision is required. Performance is judged in terms of overall effectiveness of the operation through broad general objectives, the adequacy and accuracy of the work, timeliness, and conformance to established procedures, policies, and instructions. -Organizes and plans cross-training for new employees in out patient clinics
-Monitors new employee progress and reports to supervisor any areas of concern
-Organizing the work structure of his/her assigned areas; and acting as liaison between MSA's and other hospital staff in order to resolve day to day conflicts
-Resolves day to day conflicts independently, involving supervisor when necessary
-Running reports for RTC orders, Consult Tracking Management, Pending appointments over 28 days, Open Encounters and Find Next 3 appointments, analyzing data and distributing work as necessary and adjusting clinic slots to accommodate patient needs.

The Advanced Medical Support Assistant assists all VISN 21 facilities by managing complex scheduling actions and by ensuring compliance to Office of Veterans Access to Care scheduling directives and practices. The position is required to exercise organizational skills, problem-solving ability, and content expertise in the various scheduling programs and best practices. The A/MSA communicates effectively with field staff and VISN Clinical Resource Hub (CRH) leadership on a variety of administrative priorities related to scheduling, order processing and consult management. The position requires travel for purposes including, but not limited to: VISN and facility leadership training, implementation of CRH services at Clinical Resource Hub Spoke sites and others, as assigned. The Lead MSA routinely interacts with MSA staff and collaborates with other members of an expanded health care team to assist in providing a robust interdisciplinary approach to care. The incumbent is responsible for all administrative processes requiring the skills of a qualified typist, uses independent judgment and study with specialized and complex subject matters, handles the coordination, collection, and validation of data for a wide range of comprehensive functions, developing and implementing the programs in accordance with Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and health care system (HCS) policy and guidance for all EMS programs.
The Program Support Assistant is further responsible for ensuring that the administrative work in the service meets the requirements of HCS policies, adhering to suspense coordination timelines, posting, and maintaining accurate timekeeping records for EMS staff, taking minutes for monthly committees.
The incumbent functions as the Secondary Automated Data Processing Application Coordinator (ADPAC) for the service in support of computer practices, logging and identifying malfunctions, tracking, and documenting education and staff training, monitoring, and ordering office and operating supplies to ensure a basic level of inventory is kept on hand and other duties as assigned by the Administrative Officer.
The incumbent serves as program support in all aspects of the Environmental Management Service. Incumbent meets the needs of customers while supporting the Medical Center and Service missions. Consistently communicates and treats customers (patients, visitors, volunteers, and all Medical Center staff) in courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.
Assists the Chief, Environmental Management Service and EMS Staff with meeting requests including retrieving information, setting up interviews, conference calls, VTEL and other important requests.
