Berklee College of Music invites applications for a full-time faculty member in the Contemporary Writing and Production Department.
The Contemporary Writing and Production Department includes 35 faculty members who provide specialized instruction in composition, orchestration, arranging, and production techniques, focusing on contemporary music styles and music technology tools. The department serves over 560 students in the contemporary writing and production major, the writing for television and new media specialization, and the Mediterranean music minor, as well as serving all students at Berklee College of Music in the arranging core courses.
The ideal candidate is an experienced music producer and a dedicated teacher and educator who will actively contribute to the department and the Berklee community, fostering an inclusive learning space that supports all students regardless of their background and identity. This full-time position reports to the chair of Contemporary Writing and Production in the Professional Writing and Music Technology Division.
Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities for this position include:
Teaching upper-level music production courses in the Contemporary Writing and Production major that incorporate advanced production techniques and current music technology tools in a variety of contemporary music styles, with an emphasis on hybrid production, mixing, and writer-producer collaborations in professional studio environments;
Working one-on-one with senior CWP students as they prepare their writing and production graduation portfolio and transition to their professional careers in the music industry;
Supervising recording sessions of student projects as part of the course requirements focusing on developing students’ leadership skills;
Contribute to the department’s constant curriculum development to reflect the changes in the music industry.
Experience and Qualifications:
Significant past and current professional experience as an active music producer in a variety of contemporary music styles, with an emphasis on hybrid production and remote collaboration in professional environments;
High-level skills in music technology using Pro Tools and other current Digital Audio Workstations, as well as mixing and advanced music production tools;
Teaching experience in music production and/or music technology;
Master’s Degree in Music or equivalent professional experience;
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
A willingness to adhere to a structured curriculum and to develop course content and supplemental materials;
An interest in working in a diverse workplace with a multicultural multi-talented student body.
Start date:
This is a full-time teaching position with a 9-month commitment (Fall and Spring semesters) and a renewable contract. The start date is September 1, 2024. Compensation is commensurate with professional experience.

Job Description:
Under the broad supervision of the Assistant Dean of Recruitment Experience, the Assistant Director of Recruitment Experience will manage the successful development and implementation of Berklee College of Music and Boston Conservatory at Berklee audition and interview processes and initiatives, including, but not limited to operational logistics and communications, all while giving particular consideration to the use of technology in streamlining and maintaining procedures as well as the development and enhancement of the recruitment experience. The Assistant Director provides world-class service and VIP treatment to all prospective students and their families through relationship building and counseling.Audition Scheduling & Operation Logistics:
Ensures the successful implementation of the Audition and Interview (A&I) program.
Coordinates and oversees operations and personnel for on campus, on the road, and online A&I events.
Creates and hosts online audition events using the Zoom Video Communications platform and collaborates with necessary Enrollment and Marketing team members.
Serves as a primary technical resource in the department for online auditions and interviews.
Assists with the scholarship auditions for special programs including various Berklee On The Road Events including scheduling and applicant outreach pre- and post- event.
Develops training materials and conducts auditions and interview training for staff, temporary hires, and student employees.
Assigns and supervises Student Workers, managing their time effectively.
Data Reporting includes A&I ROI Reporting and Strategy e.g., Review rating evaluations, cost analysis, and matriculation assessments for in-person and online A&I.

Audition Event Management and Facilitation:
Creates A&I sites and time slots in Salesforce.
Manages A&I databases and runs reports as needed.
Prepares logistical details and materials needed for on-campus events; collaborates with various Enrollment and Marketing teams to ensure all preparatory work is completed prior to an event.
Runs A&I Boston and Online events.
Coordinates A&I follow-ups and communication with prospective applicants and related departments.
Utilizes area protocols and applicable technology to ensure all applicants, staff, faculty, student assistants, alumni and related-stakeholders have an optimal A&I experience
Provides expert technical assistance during events for all those involved.
Manages student office workers and supervises audition team student employees.
Manages the catering and set-up for on-campus audition events, partnering with internal and external vendors.

Customer Service and Communication:
Serves as one of the main points of contact for communication relating to the auditions component of the admissions process.
Ensures that the highest level of service is provided to applicants with a view towards ensuring that their experience exceeds that of any competing institutions.
Counsels applicants and their families on the expectations, format and content of the audition and interview portion of the application and how it relates to the full admissions process.
Counsels students and their families regarding admissions eligibility, application procedures for scholarships, general financial aid information, housing and other pertinent topics via phone, email and in-person contact. Maintain familiarity with application, scholarship, financial aid, housing and Board of Admission processes, including technology resources, processing policies and correspondence procedures.

The departmental curriculum for piano principals and performance majors focuses on stylistic interpretation, improvisational skills, and overall performance health as applied to contemporary musical styles. Additionally, the Piano Department offers intensive training in reading and interpreting music in both traditional score notation and chord-symbol lead sheet notation.
The candidate must be a skilled and compassionate teacher and a nationally recognized performer in Latin styles. They must possess and demonstrate a deep knowledge of the history, traditions, and performance practices of varied Latin influenced musical genres in both artistry and pedagogy. Although a familiarity with varied historical and contemporary musical styles such as classical, jazz, blues, pop, etc. is preferred, the ideal candidate for this position is someone with mastery in playing and teaching Latin-influenced styles including but not limited to Mambo, Chachacha, Cumbia, Bachata, Rumba, Bolero, Bossa Nova, Salsa, Tango, Son Montuno, Merengue, and others. Communications. 15% Office Management
Frontline Services. Staff front desk reception in-person daily, providing exceptional customer and frontline services to students, staff, faculty, trustees, and other visitors to the office, managing phones, emails, and voicemails, providing quick and proactive support. Ability to manage a wide range of inquiries with empathy and care, and quickly identify the support needed and connecting to appropriate resources.
Office Organization & Operations. Carry out administrative duties such as filing, typing, copying, printing, binding, scanning, sorting, etc. Maintain supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies; ensuring office is organized and presentable, stocking supplies. Maintain up-to-date manual of office procedures. Checking and distributing the mail. Implement and manage effective organization and filing systems, digital and paper. 10% Project and Event Management
Project Management. Assist DSO in planning, coordinating, and executing projects and initiatives by developing effective approaches planning, including the utilization of project management tools that support implementation, tracking and reporting. Balance independent work while effectively communicating project status and flow while managing multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring their successful completion within established timelines and objectives.
Relationship Management. Lead managing the relationships and work with vendors and campus partners.
Event Planning. Lead planning, coordination and execution of key SEE events, including researching venues, estimating costs, meeting with vendors, touring locations, managing vendor relationships, building detailed run of show and preparing and managing all day-of logistics. Examples of events include a 2-hour summer boat cruise, after-work socials at local establishments, student focus groups, annual all-staff retreat (~200 staff), annual leadership retreat (~50 staff).
Student Employees. Delegate work to student employees, and provide guidance and support during their learning journey.

Founded in 2006, the Africana Studies Center at Berklee has served as a resource for students, staff, and faculty to enrich, support and expand students’ relationship to Black culture and music. Now under the newly formed Africana Studies Division, serving the College of Music and Boston Conservatory at Berklee, the Center has expanded its reach, influence and impact. Beyond serving the Berklee community the Center will partner with other institutional offices to continue the great strides in Afro-Diasporic student success and thriving. As a co-curricular partner to the Africana Studies Department, the next season ahead will feature: student-centered and student-led programming, faculty-led interdisciplinary research, and community engaging events.Responsibilities
Manage short-term and long-term strategic planning and assessment for the Africana Studies Center.
Responsible for the management and administrative oversight of the daily activities of the Africana Studies Center including managing the Center’s master calendar.
Manage internal and external Center communications.
Partner with the Office of the Dean and the Africana Studies Department on management of cultural programming aimed to support the recruitment, wellness, retention and matriculation of Afro-Diasporic (Black) students.
Work closely with the Black Scholar Initiative (BSI).
Collaborate with the Africana Studies Department Chair and faculty to develop new Africana Studies programs, exhibits and co-curricular research projects.
Represent the Africana Studies Center and the work of the Center at various campus-wide fairs, orientations and open houses.
Serve as an additional resource, safe reporting partner, and stakeholder invested in the experiences of Afro-identifying students.
Meet with and provide information about Africana Studies to prospective students and their parents who visit the college or conservatory.
Serve as an ambassador and advocate for the vision and work of the Africana Studies Center.
Supervise Student Workers.
Required Experience
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) and demonstrated knowledge/ documented research with a specific focus in Africana Studies, Black Studies, Afro Diasporic studies and/ or Black Arts traditions.
Demonstrated commitment to cultural competency in order to support a community of students who identify as African, Caribbean, Afro-Latinx, Black or African-American.
Strong passion for Student Success with 2 – 3 years of experience in mentoring/ advising students with a thorough range of Afrocentric retention strategies and strategic planning models.
Direct experience working with Black students, one-on-one and collectively, as well as working with and resourcing Black student organizations.
Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities including writing and editing skills for reports and correspondence that professionally communicates Africana Studies Center activities and policies internally and externally.
Experience managing and reconciling budgets on a monthly basis.
Must be resourceful, motivated, able to work independently, able to prioritize tasks based on overarching vision and timelines, and exercise sound judgment at all times.
Must be highly motivated and detail-oriented with strong organizational and administrative skills.
Demonstrate ability to exercise professional discretion handling sensitive or confidential information in adherence to FERPA laws in all matters of student and faculty records.

Job Description:
Berklee’s Senior Vice President (SVP) and Director of Strategy and Operations (DSO) for Student Enrollment and Engagement (SEE) seek a dynamic, highly organized, and detail-oriented individual to join their team as an Executive Assistant and Project Manager. Under the direction of the DSO, this role will provide executive-level calendar and administrative support to the SVP (75%), manage the operations of the Office of the SVP (15%), and lead the planning and execution of projects and events (10%). This role is an essential partner that drives organization, preparation, and prioritization for the SVP, working to advance priorities at the executive level for the institution, and across the SEE organization, which includes four divisions: Enrollment Management, Student Life, Student Success, and Career Services.MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
A minimum of 5-8+ years of previous executive level administrative experience, preferably in a college or university setting.
Ability to manage the daily calendar of a high-level executive, exercising considerable discretion and judgment to prioritize obligations and ensure full and advanced preparation.
Ability to conduct all communications in a clear, cordial, and professional manner; the position requires strong people skills, and a caring and solution-oriented customer-service approach.
Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work in a diverse community, embedding inclusive practices across all areas of work.
A self-starter with a strong work ethic, commitment to high quality outcomes, and polished work.
Proven ability to work with a high level of independence in an agile environment, prioritize assignments, and manage time and ambiguity effectively.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
75% Executive-Level Support
Calendar Management. Manages the daily details of the SVP's calendar, ensuring time is optimized by exercising considerable discretion and judgment to prioritize obligations, and ensuring full and advanced preparation.
Meeting Preparation and Execution. Proactively communicates with colleges to ensure all materials required for SVP and DSO meetings are prepared in advance. Schedules events and monitors attendance; prepares agendas, presentations and materials; manages room booking, sets up and technology; orders and acquires food/other supplies for meetings or events; staffs meetings to document minutes and action items; provides prompts for follow-up on necessary action items to DSO.
Communications. Provides executive level support on all correspondence and communication on behalf of the SVP and DSO, including drafting and editing memos, letters, correspondence, reports, presentations, press-releases, publications, and proposals; updating website; maintaining contact lists; responding to inquiries in the absence of the SVP and DSO; and serve as a liaison between the SVP/DSO and internal departments, external stakeholders, and partners, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
Trustee Matters. Manages all Board of Trustees matters staffed by the SVP and/or designee(s) with detailed management of deliverables and timeline.
Travel Arrangements. Coordinates and provides detailed itineraries for day-to-day and extended domestic/international travel arrangements (flights, hotels, taxis, couriers, meetings, etc.).
Expense Reconciliation. Submit and reconcile expense reports on behalf of the SVP and DSO.
15% Office Management
Frontline Services. Staff front desk reception in-person daily, providing exceptional customer and frontline services to students, staff, faculty, trustees, and other visitors to the office, managing phones, emails, and voicemails, providing quick and proactive support. Ability to manage a wide range of inquiries with empathy and care, and quickly identify the support needed and connecting to appropriate resources.
Office Organization & Operations. Carry out administrative duties such as filing, typing, copying, printing, binding, scanning, sorting, etc. Maintain supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies; ensuring office is organized and presentable, stocking supplies. Maintain up-to-date manual of office procedures. Checking and distributing the mail. Implement and manage effective organization and filing systems, digital and paper. Ensure operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; coordinating repairs and troubleshooting; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
Purchasing and Budget. Manages all purchasing, contracting and budgetary responsibilities. Tracks budget by maintaining up-to-date records of transactions, projections and commitments. Completes monthly reconciliation and executive-level reporting to DSO. Assists DSO in the development of the annual budget.
10% Project and Event Management
Project Management. Assist DSO in planning, coordinating, and executing projects and initiatives by developing effective approaches planning, including the utilization of project management tools that support implementation, tracking and reporting. Balance independent work while effectively communicating project status and flow while managing multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring their successful completion within established timelines and objectives.
Relationship Management. Lead managing the relationships and work with vendors and campus partners.
Event Planning. Lead planning, coordination and execution of key SEE events, including researching venues, estimating costs, meeting with vendors, touring locations, managing vendor relationships, building detailed run of show and preparing and managing all day-of logistics. Examples of events include a 2-hour summer boat cruise, after-work socials at local establishments, student focus groups, annual all-staff retreat (~200 staff), annual leadership retreat (~50 staff).
Student Employees. Delegate work to student employees, and provide guidance and support during their learning journey.
Other responsibilities and projects as assigned.
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, ETC.
Active and timely monitoring of email correspondence (including weeknights and weekends).
Some evening and weekend hours may be required depending on the nature and cycles of the work. Required to staff signature weekend/evening events including new student move-in (August), Convocation (August), Career Jam (April/May), Commencement (May), or others as directed by DSO.
Ability to travel within the Berklee campus radius to acquire food for executive meetings during the work week.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No supervisory responsibilities of staff. Occasional supervision of student employees.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is primarily performed indoors in an office setting, with travel outside across campus occasionally throughout the week. The noise level is typically low to moderate, however this role is in an open workspace and the candidate will need to be able to perform duties while visitors are in office. The employee may be required to lift lightweight objects.
Occasional ability to work remote on Fridays.
