Job Description:
The Clinical Engineer I is typically assigned to perform preventive maintenance and repair of individual devices and equipment, and works under direct or indirect supervision.
Scope
Performs safety testing, performance testing, and preventive maintenance tomeet NFPA, OSHA, and The Joint Commission compliance, primarily on basic medical equipment in assigned departments at the scheduled time intervals.
Performs electronic repairs, according to manufacturers specifications, on basic medical equipment to ensure equipment that is 100% operational for providers, clinical staff and patients.
Replaces defective components according to accepted industry practice to ensure minimal damage to components and printed circuit boards.
Performs operational checkout and safety testing of all repaired equipment.
Documents every work request including all necessary parts, including part numbers, quantity, price, time, procedures, and equipment used to accomplish each service request..
Responds immediately to emergency repairs, including after hours and weekends.
Communicates the nature of repair to the department supervisor as well as an estimate of the possible down-time. Informs personnel as to equipment status after completion of repairs
Works under the supervision of a Clinical Engineering Equipment Technician 2 or Clinical Engineering Equipment Technician 3, to ensure equipment meets State and Federal guidelines and repairs equipment that does not pass annual testing. Responsible for personal and professional development, including vendor training, to ensure current knowledge in equipment repair.

Minimum Qualifications
Required
Completion of a two year approved Biomedical Electronics program or comparable education or military training/experience
