Job Description:
The Research Assistant will work in the Center for Translational Neuroscience (CTN) in the Carney Institute for Brain Science, directed by Eric Morrow MD/PhD and Judy Liu MD/PhD, under the direct supervision of Dr. Morrow. The position involves research with patients, including adults and children, and families with neurogenetic disorders involving autism, epilepsy and related neurologic disorders. The CTN studies molecular and cellular mechanisms of neurological and neuropsychiatric disease, including autism, intellectual disability, epilepsy and neurodegenerative disease. The goals of the CTN are to build knowledge of the pathophysiology of disease and also to develop new diagnostic tools and treatments for these brain conditions. This position involves patient-oriented research which is conducted in collaboration with colleagues in affiliated hospital settings, yet the work is well-integrated into a setting also involving laboratory-based genetic and neuroscience research. The position is responsible for day to day tasks associated with multiple studies of rare genetic disorders conducted by the CTN at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University and affiliated hospitals E.P. Bradley Hospital and Rhode Island Hospital. Duties include interviewing participants and families to gather study data and obtain informed consent; maintenance of study records and tracking of study participants; data entry, reporting, and assistance with database management; and assistance with recruitment efforts. There is an opportunity to assist with data analysis and preparation of manuscripts.

Job Description:
The Fairbrother Laboratory is seeking a Research Assistant with experience in molecular and cell biology techniques. This candidate will assist with maintaining cell lines and reagents, perform transfections, PCR, western blotting, and protein and DNA extractions. In addition, the Research Assistant will be responsible for preparing equipment and supplies so that experiments in the laboratory can be carried out successfully. Candidate is expected to maintain order in the lab and assist with experiments in collaboration with computational biologists and other lab members.
The Fairbrother Laboratory uses a combination of computational biology and high throughput genomics techniques to identify functional elements in the genome. We seek to understand recognition events important in gene expression (i.e transcription and RNA splicing). Some specific projects include 1) understanding how particular arrangements of sequence elements are read by the splicing machinery, 2) identifying mutations/polymorphisms that disrupt splicing in the human population.
This is a fixed term position with a current end date of one year from the date of hire which may be extended based upon available funding.

The Assistant Director of Research Development serves in a strategic role within the Office of Research Strategy and Development and advances transdisciplinary collaboration and innovation by strategically coordinating the development of complex research teams and their funding proposals. The incumbent will support current and develop emerging research strengths and capabilities across campus; lead the development of opportunities for strengthening faculty research and teaming capabilities including grant writing workshops and networking events, ideation meetings and brainstorming sessions; provide research development support for large scale multi-institutional proposals; will identify external funding opportunities and proactively build relationships among collaborating entities both internally and external to Brown. Additionally, the Assistant Director of Research Development is responsible for developing and maintaining ongoing relationships with strategic partners, locally and globally. Finally, working with senior leaders from across campus, this position will be the strategic point person for institutional level proposals.
Responsibilities:
Enable funding for priority research by leading investigators in the preparation of large scale (>$5M) proposals for federal funding
In collaboration with the Research Strategy and Development team, while ensuring projects are in line with areas designated for growth through the strategic efforts of the Provost and VPR, identify resources needed for successful large scale proposal development and provide support as needed. Lead team building, project development, and project management roles to advance research aims and ensure success of research teams. Specialize in building complex proposals involving multiple researchers, often with collaborations and budgets spanning multiple departments, campuses, or institutions. Determine sponsor requirements and provide strategic advice for meeting sponsor requirements. Coordinate with department grant managers. Coach faculty throughout the proposal development process. Advise on specialized services (e.g. broader impacts, diversity plans, cost sharing, management plans) and identify appropriate sources of services. Draft letters of support or institutional commitment from university leaders and facilitate the letter approval process. Where internal or external professional services are needed (e.g. evaluator) identify provider and coordinate services. Provide template language on Brown services and facilities. Provide research leadership by supporting strategic projects for the Office of Research Strategy and Development
Design, develop and direct events at Brown to connect potential partners to research at Brown; strategically preparing teams in advance of and during proposal preparation. This includes outreach to federal agencies and national laboratories. While representing Brown, engage with federal agencies at workshops, open houses, and /or proposers’ days. Design and establish a database of strategic partnerships ranging from local to global partners, including local industries, national labs, non-profits, and federal agencies. Ensure funding and/or collaboration opportunities are brought to the attention of relevant faculty and department leadership.
Provide strategic intelligence on current best practices within research development, including team science, process optimization and other kinds of research development support.
Lead the submission of proposals for broad, university-wide proposals.
Oversee the proposal development process of institutional level proposals including proposal narrative development, editing, proofreading, integrating content from multiple authors, coordinating meetings with project team members, and evaluating complex funding solicitations to ensure compliance. Responsibilities:
The Senior Research Associate is responsible for developing and at times leading key research analysis projects with local districts and the Rhode Island Department of Education to understand and address questions about student well-being, academic outcomes, and the teacher workforce. The Senior Research Associate leads data collection and analysis efforts, develops project models, and writes academic papers, reports, presentations, and grant reports.
This position requires a strong independent work ethic, interest in education, ability to collaborate with the research team and external partners, commitment to equity, and quantitative research skills. Qualifications:
Education and Experience
PhD or EdD and 2-3 years of research experience or a Master’s degree in education (or relevant social science) and 5-7 years of experience in the field of education, 3 of which should be direct research experience as a research analyst or research project manager.

Job Description:
Position Purpose:
The research assistant (RA) will assist in conducting a project that involves studying how green space is associated with sleep and mental health in children. The study involves working with children in order to assess their exposure to green spaces, sleep behavior and mental health through the wearing of devices and administration of surveys. Work activities will involve traveling within Rhode Island to perform data collection visits with participants and their guardians either at their residence or neutral off-site locations, conducting in-person or zoom-based research qualitative interviews, programming and administering surveys, managing participant compensation, and aiding recruitment efforts through flyer distribution and collection, and social media management. Job Description:
As the primary provider of all-inclusive histology and histopathology services at Brown University, the Molecular Pathology Core (MPC) is responsible for tissue processing and staining services for biomedical researchers both internal and external to Brown University. The Research Assistant will be responsible for processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining samples for sophisticated analysis using primarily light microscopy. The research assistant (RA) will assist in conducting projects that involve studying patterns of alcohol and cannabis use and related behaviors (e.g., driving under the influence) among adult heavy alcohol and cannabis users. The studies involve the collection of data in the natural environment using smartphone applications, Geospatial Monitoring devices, and wearable alcohol biosensors.
