As the Clinical Research Facility Nursing & Midwifery Lead you will work closely with the Manchester CRF Operational Director and Medical Director to deliver the strategic aims of the Manchester CRF at MFT.

You will also be responsible for line managing the Manchester CRF Matron and Manchester CRF Advanced Clinical Practitioners.

The scope of the role extends to supporting the NIHR Manchester CRF’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy, responsibility for clinical and research governance and for ensuring safe delivery of Clinical Trials.

Service Development and Leadership

Provide visible, effective clinical, research and professional leadership which demonstrates the values and behaviours identified within the Trust’s framework.

Clinical Governance/Effectiveness

Support and contribute to the research and clinical governance agenda for R&I, working closely with the Head of Nursing & Midwifery, Assistant Chief Nurse and R&I senior management team to deliver safe and effective care.
Working with MCRF Operational Director and Head of Nursing & Midwifery ensure appropriate mitigation is in place and issues are escalated appropriately.
Act as MCRF safeguarding lead ensuring Trusts safeguarding policies are implemented at a local level in conjunction with the Head of Nursing & Midwifery and Assistant Chief Nurse for R&I
Ensure all MCRF research nurses & midwives comply with the NMC regulations and work within their scope of practice.
Support the MCRF Operational Director to embed a culture of learning through the management and oversight of incidents and patient and staff feedback, within MCRF
Contribute to the Trusts achievement of the Care Quality Commission Standards and other regulatory standards ensuring a programme of audit and review is in place to maintain required standards.
Ensure nursing documentation meets regulatory and Trust standards
Maintain insight into new developments in practice and contribute to programmes of work to implement changes which improve the quality of care.
Ensure that there are robust systems and processes in place to ensure that all nurses maintain their professional registration, taking appropriate action in line with Trust policy and professional legislation
where issues have been identified.
Ensure all documentation for patients and staff is appropriate, accountable and defensible and meets identified standards for record keeping.

Policy & Strategy

Provide professional leadership on the implementation and provision of training and education programmes within MCRF ensuring that this provides staff with skills to undertake new roles and meet
the needs of patients.
Contribute to the MCRF training needs analysis and MCRF training and education plan / strategy.
Ensure that MCRF meets the requirements to provide education and deliver quality placements for students.
Minimise clinical risk by ensuring that clinical practice and the development of clinical guidelines adhere to guidelines produced by professional and regulatory bodies.
Contribute to the development of a strategy for the continued development of nurses and AHP’s practising at specialist and advanced level across the Trust.
Represent the MCRF Operational Director and Director at identified committees or meetings both internal and external to MCRF, providing feedback as appropriate.
Represent the Head of Nursing & Midwifery and Assistant Chief Nurse for R&I at identified committees or meetings both internal and external to R&I, providing feedback as appropriate.

Finance and Resource Management

Taking direction from the MCRF Operational Director, responsible for undertaking reviews of the
nursing and midwifery workforce and skill mix across their area of responsibility.
Support and facilitate the management of pay and not pay budgets in partnership with the MCRF sites.
Advise on patient needs relating to the purchase of equipment including prioritisation of equipment
within MCRF.
In collaboration with the R&I accountant and MCRF Operational Managers, support matrons and
nurse managers to effectively manage the responsibility for their staff budgets through the regular review
of establishments and skill mix ensuring the appropriate levels are maintained and secured in line with
research study requirements.
Support the MCRF Operational Director and Head of Nursing & Midwifery to lead on initiatives related
to staff wellbeing and implement robust processes to manage sickness and absence in line with Trust
Policy
With the MCRF Operational Director develop and implement effective and efficient ways of working to
maximise the use of resources.
Ensure that services are delivered within allocated budgets, identifying evidence to support safe and
effective service delivery and contribute to the delivery of MCRF financial plans.
Ensure the management of staffing resource is aligned to Trust Policies and Procedures, providing
advice to CRF Operational Managers, Matrons and Nurse Managers
Monitor Human Resources workforce indicators (vacancies, sickness, e rostering KPI’s, etc),
implementing and monitoring delivery of actions to address areas for improvement.
Contribute the Trust achievement of the NIHR performance targets and reporting, and other regulatory
standards required by MCRF.

Research and Development

Contribute to the delivery of the MCRF strategies R&I research strategy.
Contribute to the delivery of R&I research strategy.
With the MCRF leadership team, lead on the development of the new MCRF site(s), undertaking
matron responsibilities where required.
Ensure that practice is based on the best available evidence and aligned to Trust Policies and
Guidelines,
Actively participate in the development and implementation of the Trust Nursing, Midwifery and Allied
Health Research Strategy.
Support delivery of strategic projects across MCRF
Contribute to MCRF capacity building, training and education.

• To implement and carry out procedures to ensure the team is compliant with the principles of Good Clinical Practice, the Research Governance Framework and all regulatory legislation in their day-to-day practice.
• Obtain informed consent from participants for qualitative or non CTIMP trials as deemed appropriate and delegated to do so.
• Identify and recruit participants into clinical trials, assisting in the management, coordination and facilitation of the concurrent trials ensuring recruitment targets are met.
• Contribute to appropriate data collection and to monitor data in accordance with the research protocol and standard operating procedures.
• Maintain participant follow up in the form of telephone/ face to face contact for data collection ensuring study visit timescales are adhered to.

Clinical Research at MFT

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for a full time, Band 6 Senior Paediatric Clinical Research Nurse, to coordinate and deliver clinical research studies at Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MFT). The role will require working across the paediatric, oncology, critical care, and neonatal research teams.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who is capable of contributing to the development of research within the paediatric research teams. The post is based at Oxford Road campus but cross working across MFT sites maybe required.

The post holder will be a key member of the clinical research teams. They will assist in the management, co-ordination and facilitation of clinical trial activities to support delivery of current and future studies in the research teams to time and target. They will provide specialist research and clinical care for participants and patients enrolling in a variety of research studies and project.

They will work across Research & Innovation, to support research studies across MFT as the service need dictates.

The post holder will have a key role in providing and maintaining appropriate patient/ participant –focused environment within the research setting. They will work with clinical investigators and sponsor companies to assist in the management of trial protocols. They will ensure data collection is to its highest standards, facilitating the production of good quality research with a commitment to the patient’s safety and wellbeing.

They will be expected to participate fully in their own personal development and review process in order to achieve the knowledge and skills identified in the competency framework and competencies for this post.
