Learning Support Teacher
Responsibilities
- Teach students with mild to moderate learning disabilities depending on student need (small group ‘push-in’ or ‘pull out’). Could be a co-teaching situation.
- Case management of students with learning challenges: facilitating teacher and parent meetings; facilitating Student Support Team.
- Management of the new student referral process; maintain the integrity of the student referral process.
- Management of individualized Educational Plan and follow-up progress meetings (IEP) on Action Plan.
- Specific remediation of literacy and math (when possible) with learning deficits.
- Consult with teachers in identifying student learning problems and concerns and recommend teaching strategies which will assist individual teachers in working with students in the classroom.
- Consultations for students identified but not receiving direct services (to include talented and gifted) and management of action plan,
- Participate in parent / teacher conferences when appropriate.
- Maintain confidential records of students within the program.
- Support teachers with differentiation strategies to be used in the classroom.
- Provide initial evaluation services to determine student’s needs.
- Support students with learning needs by collaborating with differentiation strategies during unit planning.
- Liaise with outside agencies to create a bank of resources which parents can use when necessary.
- Plan professional development opportunities for staff/and or parents when needed.
- Participation in curriculum review and development, extra-curricular and activity week programs/Week Without Walls, ISS pastoral care program (homeroom duties, reporting procedures, student guidance, liaison with ISS Student Services), ongoing school development programs and school's accreditation program.
- Support of the ISS Strategic Plan.
- Provide support for the ISS Marketing department initiatives.
- Provide support for the ISS Admissions department initiatives.
- Implementation of the ISS Discipline Policy.
- Relief teaching, student supervision and as required by the Academic Directors.
- Attend and participate in all staff meetings, In-Service Day programs, relevant training programs and in school events (Parents Evenings, Concert, Graduation, etc).
- Ongoing professional training to remain up to date with educational developments.
- Awareness of evacuation and safety procedures and its communication to students as directed by the ISS Safety Officer.
- Any other duties as assigned by the Academic Directors
Counsellor
Responsibilities
Counselling (individual and group)
- Provide personal counselling to students or if necessary, provide referral service to appropriate community agencies.
- Provide academic or social counselling to students individually and in groups if meetings with academic staff have proved unsuccessful.
- Facilitate the delivery of developmental, remedial and preventive programmes.
Consulting
- Meeting with parents to discuss issues such as problems in classes or situations which may arise in the school, concern over a student’s health or well-being or ask about previous history.
- Attend meetings with teachers to discuss such issues as placement of students, concern over a student’s health or well-being.
- Referral of student and/or student’s family to the appropriate community agency.
Coordination
- Communication of counseling and support services through online or face-to-face media.
- Implementation of policies required by the administration and informing appropriate administrator of concern of, or problem with students.
- Participation in the development and delivery of the Pastoral Care programme.
- Collaboration with the Homeroom teacher, Nurse, Guardianship Coordinator, or Academic Directors to determine best course of action for specific situations.
- Member of the Child Protection Committee.
Student Evaluation
- Ensuring appropriate student placement, in initial admission of student and also during school year
- Monitoring student progress socially, physically and emotionally
- Monitoring of students who are having issues with sleep, smoking, alcohol, stress, behavioural issues.
- Advising students on additional academic programmes they may need to support learning.
- Assessment of new students by reviewing their transcripts, contacting schools where necessary and discussion with student and parent.
- Contacting teachers where necessary and informing them of any concerns or problems with students.
