This is an excellent and exciting opportunity for an experienced nurse within this specialist field to join our dynamic Substance Misuse Recovery Service. We are looking for registered nurses RMN, with relevant nursing experience in Substance Misuse ideally in a remote and rural setting and post graduate education.

The post holder will assist in developing and maintaining a clinical service providing assessment, treatment and support to individuals whom have been identified as being alcohol dependent and whom require medical withdrawal and for those individuals in opiate substitution programmes or specialist prescribing. This will involve assessment of service users needs; development, implementation and evaluation of individually planned care together with other members of the multidisciplinary team and partner agencies. Excellent interpersonal skills and experience of multi-agency working are essential.

Our day surgery unit provides care to adult and paediatric patients from a wide range of specialities including ENT, ophthalmology, Max Fax, Dental, orthopaedic, as well as Endoscopy and general surgery.

The Ambulatory Care Unit is for long term condition care, biologic infusions, pre subcutaneous biologic injection workup, undertaking bloods and information sharing to these patients, having an interest in Disease Activity Scoring (DAS) and Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ). Assisting clinicians when administering maintenance and termination of regional or local anaesthetics. Application of Qutensa patches to patients requiring this procedure.

In this key role, you will lead a team of nursing staff, including trained nurses, healthcare support workers and student nurses. You will also provide nursing leadership and expertise and contribute to the education, training and support of fellow health professionals.

You will be responsible for all aspects of care for patients undergoing planned surgery, the day surgery unit is also utilised for admission of inpatient planned surgery - these patients are transferred to the surgical inpatient ward from recovery. Part of your responsibility will be to ensure the environment is safe and effective for delivery of care to adults and children. You will provide excellent care from admission to discharge and participate in ward audit, clinical quality indicators and patient opinion.

You will be a Registered General Nurse with extensive post registration experience at Band 5 level or above within a surgical ward/day surgery unit or endoscopy suite. You will also have a broad knowledge of long term condition nursing care, excellent communication skills, experience of mentoring/ preceptorship and the ability to work on your own initiative. Flexibility to work across other areas of the organisation, either hospital or community based, as required, is also essential.

All of this whilst working towards gaining a recognised qualification which will enable you to develop towards future careers.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced MRI Radiographer to join our highly motivated and friendly Medical Imaging team. This position if for a 1 year fixed term contract due the implementation of a specific project, pilot or system. Applications for secondment welcome.

Are you enthusiastic about living in an island community and being a member of a small but friendly and supportive team? Do you have experience working at a senior level in an MRI department?

As we prepare to open our first ever MRI suit in Shetland, we are looking for a suitably qualified and experienced MRI Radiographer to undertake the position of MRI Modality Lead. Candidates must be able to demonstrate evidence of working at a senior level within MRI, with either a Post Graduate Certificate in MRI or equivalent experience. Applicants must also demonstrate an understanding of our unique location and the challenges and opportunities this may present.

The Medical Imaging Department currently has a team of 16 staff, including 9 Radiographers, 2 of whom are MRI trained, 3 (4) Sonographers, 1 assistant practitioner and bank 2 admin staff.

We will soon be taking ownership of a Philips Blueseal 1.5T MRI scanner, which will be housed in a bespoke modular building within the hospital grounds. Our other equipment includes two general DR rooms, two DR mobiles, a Fuji Xair Digital system, DR OPT/CEPH unit, a 128 slice GE Revolution Evo CT scanner and two GE ultrasound rooms. We are also currently in the process of setting up the UKs most northerly MRI service.

We have a local PACS and are fully integrated with the Scottish national PACS.

The Gilbert Bain Hospital in Lerwick is an island general/acute hospital serving Shetlands 22,000 residents plus the offshore oil industry and maritime population. The hospital provides acute/elective general surgical and general medical inpatient and outpatient services in addition to consultant led A&E. More specialist services are provided by visiting consultants and tele-medicine services. MRI Physics is provided remotely and there is no resident Radiologist, but we have reporting ultrasonographers and reporting radiographers. We work closely with local clinicians providing the usual in/out patient, GP and acute 24-hour service cover with Radiologist support provided remotely.
